According to reports, Liverpool are working to tie-up the sale of winger Jermaine Pennant and forward Andrei Voronin.
The Reds boss Rafa Benitez is still keen to bring £18m-rated midfielder Gareth Barry to Anfield from Aston Villa, and as such needs funds to make the final move after having four earlier offers rejected by their Premiership rivals.
Blackburn Rovers are linked with Pennant, while Voronin is reportedly a target for Bundesliga outfit Hamburg. Both players were not part of the Reds side that beat Sunderland in the Premiership opener on Saturday. (premiershiplatest.com)

As mentioned yesterday Voronin’s move seems nailed on, Martin Jol appears to be a fan and he needs to spend the cash from the Van der Vaart sale before the window closes and has failed to pick up some of his former Spurs players. Pennant also seems like he may have played his last game for the club as Rafa looks to balance the books ahead of one last big name signing. Are there any other players that Liverpool fans think they should offload from their squad before August 31st?

I’m getting tired too with claims these two players are leaving, 10m isn’t enough to get Barry is it, or is there more money from somewhere else.
All getting tiresome this talk of transfers, Chelsea are looking too strong for the Reds to compete against - still the same old problems. Please go away and leave all these silly suggestions alone.

What I don’t understand is why rafa needs another defensive midfielder. mascherano, plessis, lucas, alonso, the list goes. buy a winger. There is only one decent winger in babel on the entire team. Rafa will get sacked if he doesn’t wise up

How many times do you need to be told, it is not Rafa who sells and buys, it is PARRY! who does the dealing. That is why we are in such a mess with everything. He did the dealing with the Americans and put us in this situation.

Get a winger or bust…Torres -great goal ,great player but we cant rely on these last gasp screamers to get out of jail. IIIIf we sell blah blah blah forget this Barry crap & get a pacy skillful winger to compliment Babel & this will give supporters THE team we want!!!Keane is top class but lacks that genuine speed to create so get the wingers with pace to utilise keanes finishing touch + Torres can weave his own magic.

The guy’s brand of hoofball is depressing and his tendency to wash his skiddeys in public together with spitting his dummy out is embarrassing for our great club.
The guy hasnt got a clue. Our flanks are our weakness yet he obsesses with central midfielders when we already have Gerrard and mascherano, two of the very best in the world.

Watchout for El Zhar, he could be our winger in the future. He’s got plenty of speed and enough to skill to do the job. But we’ve got Babel in either case. If Barry does come in he’ll patrol the left with mascherano and gerrard centre. Benayoun and Kuyt would be backups, Aurelio can play there too. So I don’t know about getting another winger and spending a whole lot of cash really……which we don’t actually have to begin with.

Dirk has to go he is not a winger I know he works hard but thats not enough.We need two top of the range wingers and I would’nt mind Danny Alves at right back if the worst comes to the worst he can play right wing.I just hope they get it all sorted I am pulling my hair out here!

The reason for all the above statements is that Liverpool, for all the fan’s optimism, do not have enough good players to beat the larger teams. Benitez has co-ordinated the transfer dealings for the club since he arrived so he should take responsibility.
Regardless of his baby tantrum this weekend - Rafa Benitez should leave Liverpool.
Mancini is the right man for the job. He’ll install a couple of great wingers and make Liverpool title challengers.
