Liverpool to bid for £6m Premier League PLAN B!

Liverpool Football Club have been linked with a move for Wilson Palacios
The Honduran international is proving to be a huge hit at Wigan Athletic, and Rafael Benitez is believed to be lining up a £6million offer for the player as he accepts defeat in the chase for Gareth Barry.
Palacios, 24 years old, was superb at the weekend despite the Latics going down at West Ham United, and Steve Bruce admits he could struggle to keep the midfielder.
“The window can’t close soon enough as far as I am concerned because, if he carries on playing like that, it won’t be long before a lot of clubs are after him,” said Bruce.
“He’s a top, top player and we could struggle to hold on to him.” (Fansfc.co.uk)
Whilst I rate Palacios, he really isn’t the kind of top-quality player I would expect Benitez and Liverpool to be shopping for. Yes, at that price he is relatively cheap, but does he offer an improvement on what is already on the Anfield books? Steve Bruce talks of his Honduran international as though a move is imminent, as does this source, but I have to say I am not convinced it will happen! Do Liverpool fans think that Wilson is the kind of player that is likely to make an impact at the Merseyside giants?

Bill Ward - August 18th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Anonymous,
Who are you calling a dick? Rafa Can only buy whats available with the pittance that the Yanks and Parry give him and at the moment it looks like they’re the one who are saying who we can buy.
Also Anonymous, If you don’t want to be named keep your insults to yourself.

Rafa doesnt want Joquinn because his bad lifestill…smokes 40 a day, enjoys a drink to much and likes to party. he’s not the kind of player rafa wants. Dick!
Ben - August 18th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Why not, he looks a good player, he is young and is cheaper, dick!

Barry deal aint dead. Voronin Pennant out Gaz Baz in before deadline, Barry is still waiting and hoping.
David Villa - August 18th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
O.K Where exactly is the evidence Liverpool are after Palacios??
Drew Vader - August 18th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
And Steve Bruce recently said it would take some kind of offer to get Palacios now, so i think 6 mil is a tad off the mark…
Red's Fury™ - August 19th, 2008 at 2:08 am
Another paper’s talk….
Rafa still wants Barry??? I don’t thinks so, he’s cup-tied in the Champions League. A move for him in the January transfer window, where Barry will be a free agent would be an ideal option now. It would be stupid to pay £18mil for a player who’s cup-tied.
YNWA…

RAFA IS A LOUSY COACH. HE IS OVERRATED AS A TACTICIAN. WENGER & FERGUSON & HIS BUNNIES (BRUCE, KEANE, HUGHES) ARE ALL SUPERIOR TACTICALLY TO RAFA. JUST LOOK AT THEIR IN-GAME ADJUSTMENTS VS RAFA. OR LOOK AT BRUCE’S RECORD AGAINST RAFA. HOW CAN ANYONE CLAIM RAFA TO BE TACTICALLY BRILLIANT IS BEYOND ME. HE HAD ONE GOOD TACTICAL GAME — THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL — AND EVEN IN THAT GAME HE MESSED UP TACTICALLY, AND ONLY BECAME A “GENIUS” WHEN HE HAD TO MEND HIS MISTAKES AT HALF TIME. IF YOU ANALYSE THAT GAME AGAIN, YOU WILL SEE THAT IT WAS THE PLAYERS’ HEROICS WHICH PULLED IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND NOT THE MANAGER’S TECHNICAL WIZARDRY.
WHY IN THE WORLD DOES HE WANT BARRY WHEN ALONSO IS SUPERIOR CREATIVELY? OK, MAYBE BARRY IS MARGINALLY BETTER ON DEFENSE AND CAN WING IT IN NOW AND THEN, BUT AT 18M QUID? WHY DIDN’T HE JUST PAY THE 8M QUID FOR VAN DER VAART? HECK, SEND VORONIN & PENNANT + 5M QUID AND FOR VAN DER VAART! PURE STUPIDITY IF YOU ASK ME.

I think we need to be realistic. Until the power struggle between Benitez and the Liverpool owners is sorted out there will be no big money buys.
I see only one resolution to 18 months of bad publicity, no silverware and in-fighting. I believe that Benitez will be gone by the end of the month be it through him resigning or being sacked.
Hicks and Gillette are shrewd enough to have lined up a new manager. The elephant in the room this whole summer has been Mancini’s visit to America in late July.
The rumour is that he’s currently on holiday in a hotel just outside Chester. Maybe he’s just sight seeing. Perhaps he’s meeting friends. Perhaps he’s got a job interview.
Postmodernist - August 19th, 2008 at 9:24 am
Reds Fury - you’re incorrect. Barry has two years on his contract. In January he’ll still have over 18 months left. It’s only when you have 6 months left that you can start talking about moving as a free agent.

Bill - Sorry, have to laugh, ‘The pittance that the yanks give him’?? What that paltry 80+ million he’s had over last 2 seasons? Yeah, poor bugger, more money than anyone outside Chelsea.
magnumopus - August 19th, 2008 at 9:34 am
Wilson is a quality player who will only get better and then his sell on price will be much higher than today! I say bring him in at no more than 8 million quid.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. SIGN ANOTHER WORLD CLASS PLAYER. LOOK AT TORRES… HE IS WORTH EVERY SINGLE CENT AND MORE.
TommySmithsShorts - August 19th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
We need to raid some other teams players - I don’t see why we can’t get hold of Joe Cole or Rooney if the red faced old b’stard gets Berbatov.

£20m for Robbie Keane. Rafa should have added the extra and got Berbatov if he wanted a striker, but hey Rafa, Wingers are what we really want….No …Really need
shoutgreat - August 19th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
it would be a great investment to buy wilson, price is low quality high, why buy a very expensive player whose performance is not guaranteed
