Spurs set to BID for one of £33m TRIO
by Mr Comfort on August 18th, 2008This report suggests that Juande is looking to a new striker to replace the exit bound Berbatov and is set to choose between these three hotshots!
Why not join the debate at the COS forum?
Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan remains a target for Tottenham.
BBC Sport says the Uruguay international is among a shortlist of attacking targets drawn up by Spurs boss Juande Ramos.
Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz and Diego Milito of Real Zaragoza are also thought to be under consideration, but newspaper links to Sevilla’s Fredi Kanoute are wide of the mark. (tribalfootball.com)
Attempting to replace the Bulgarian will be tough but it appears more and more likely it’s something the north London club will have to attempt some time soon. None of these three strikers are quite in the same mould as Dimitar but I would opt for Roque Santa Cruz every time. He was the bargain of the season last term and continued where he left off on day one of this term by scoring at Goodison Park. Blackburn wouldn’t want to sell him but if the Paraguayan made it clear he wanted to leave, and he has made references to doing just that in pre-season, then the Ewood Park outfit would probably want at least £14-£16m for the former Bayern Munich man. Do Spurs fans think that any of this trio has what it takes to fill Berbs boots?

Well let me see quite difficult which one oh alright Cruz.Like blackburn will sell him.

another crap article copied from somewhere else…
Well Done Mate..!
fiftypeehead - August 18th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
I would choose Santa Cruz aswel, but there’s no way Blackburn would sell to us after the drawn out Bentley transfer. They would certainly ask for more than 16m. More like 20m plus. Definately dont want Forlan. Some players just aint suited to English footy
Simon - August 18th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Dont want forlan or santa cruz or milito give us Arshavin he’s quality.he be with us in the next two days the negotiations are at a crucial stage!!
Longlivetheking26 - August 18th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
arshavin & santa cruz
fiftypeehead - August 18th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Arshavin is an attacking midfielder. Quality i agree, but we need a tall strong target man when Berba goes
Typical eh! - August 18th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
arshaven and santa cruz plus another proven centre back..
RoundTheCorner - August 18th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
arshavin & santa cruz
bob the spur - August 18th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Correct longlivetheking26, for fuck sake will somebody with a pair of bollocks give the tottenham board and ramos a good kick up the arse and tell them to open the purse and buy CORLUKA and VELOSO then buy ARSHAVIN and SANTA CRUZ . If we get rid of the dead wood ( IE the six rejects plus maybe zakora and jennas ) and use all the cash for the playres above then we will see the new team pay dividends and start to get the consistant results we should have been getting for years.
Stephen - August 18th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Klaus Jan Hunterlaar is the man we need to replace Berbatov
bob the spur - August 18th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
By the way I also admit that Berba should go so we can buy a player that wants to be in the tottenham squad without all the hype, plus we gan get two for the price of one with the berba kitty.
Anonymous - August 18th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Bob the spur,
Finally someone speaking some sense, agree 100 % what you say.
cc - August 18th, 2008 at 9:06 pm

bob the spur - August 18th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
the berba money n all the money we gt from the trator n the sunderland lot that went
Spurs Dude - August 18th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Agree with Stephen…. The HUNTER is the 1 we should go for……
As for the quote from BERBASULK…He has just confirmed to the FA (not that they’ll do piss all about it) that he HAS been tapped up.
If it was his “DREAM” to play for Manure, why not sign for them in 2006?. They were in the CL and a top club back then, why join us?.
They’ve gone to him on the quiet and offered shed loads of cash, simply as……..
There may be them amongst you, who say that CL football is the main attraction, but as I have already said, why not sign for them in 2006!!!!!!
TAPPED UP - Case Closed….
prime8 - August 18th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
all depends how much we get for Berba?
cc - August 18th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Whos to say Ramos’s tactics wont spoil any player we get.

Ramos is the best manger we ever had…apart from that line up against middlesbrough
cc - August 18th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
No Bob the spur if you look at our form since our cup win… its borderline relegation form. I mean we lost 4-1, at home, to Newcastle!!!

tw@ internet cafe - August 18th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Huntelaar and Arshavin could form a devastating partnership. The knob Juande better realise. Can not believe his comments after the game. In Ramos I dont trust - he will be with us for this season and gone by next, mark my words.
matt - August 18th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
we will keep berbatov! ramos has made it clear that berbs is going nowhere until man u meet our asking price and also until we have found a suitable replacement. Although not like for like, arshavin is someone who many of us expected to have bought by now …i think i have worked out our game cos i really cant see the 2m being that much of a problem. its basically that leevy thinks man u are trying to bully us and is fed up! ecspecially with keane off aswsell them being arguaably our best players, and there doesnt seem to be anyway of keeping them. ….unless with berb just explain to him that they havent met the asking price and that we cant find anyone to buy ..sorry mate etc ….then when nothings happened on last day of window, ..make the move for arshavin : ) man u are not going to pay 32m for berb after paying that for tevez! no way! then there is nothing dimi can do!
cc - August 18th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
we wont get Huntelaar he wants man u or arsenal. Arshavin, yes
jimmy jones - August 18th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

no one has made a firm bid for huntelaar, if spurs do he may come. there’s no reason why we shouldnt be bidding for him - he is the man

think its time to get behind Ramos and see where it takes us dont judge him on one game. Sunderland will be a diffrent match.

haha borat- this is ur friend azamat… remember me? I sat on your face in that hotel!! I think we should let mr berbatov know about what happened to the last man that said “I have a dream”

What utter nonsense. Ramos the best we’ve had? How can you forget the great man, and what about burkinshaw, he gave us 8 great years. thirdly terry venables who i have no doubt would have produced a title winning side had he stayed longer. All Ramos has done is spend loads and won the carling cup. Let’s face it, League results have been poor even BMJ took us to 5th twice. Defensively we are rubbish and until investment is made in that area, we won’t get near CL football, Both Berby and keano’s dream is CL footy, they have tried to take us there, but have been badly let down by our defensive failings, they have realised it is unlikely to change so want/wanted to persue the dream elsewhere. you can’t blame them really. Ramos? well, i don’t think anyone should judge him until he’s had a full season in charge.
Mase the arse - August 18th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
sorry spurs fans, after shite game on saturday, it’ll be hard to get any of those targets. After you lose to sunderland on saturday at home, it’ll even tougher. keep berbatov, he is your last hope.
spursmuaythai - August 18th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
we are a highly ambitious under mr levy so naming us to small a club i bollocks. i for 1 still have faith this season wont be a disaster. i think we will finish 8th or 7th in honesty, depending who we sign. huntelaar would be fantastic replacement for that horrible arrogant bulgarian fucking bozzo cunt who no-one had heard of before we signed him! quicker hes out the better! fuck him! fuck milito hes shit, fuck kanute hes a move backward, ashavin is maybe ok hopefully not the next rebrov, hope he is as good as he seemed in the euros, im not 100% convinced though!
stantheman - August 18th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
all of you who hate ramos and are wanting him out .probably are the martin jol fan club. typical spurs fans think we are better than we are ,give ramos time for f@@ks sake .he will get things wrong ,early days yet lads.

Ramos has been sacked at everyclub he has been at bar Sevilla
deebo - August 18th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
u guys know jack… spurs are a big club, we can attract the likes of huntelaar. we did get modric and dos santos!!! its been one game so can everyone get off Ramos’ back. he is an awesome tactician and it will pay off in the long run, we lacked creativity in the midfield so he brought in modric, dos santos and bentley, we were lacking defensively so he brought in woody, gunter, gilberto, hutton and gomes and only recently are we lacking in attack so he WILL bring that in. Dont judge someone on one game otherwise alex “tapping up” fergie should be on the block too after their lacklustre performance and dont even get me started on rafa “rotation” benitez and liverpool’s shite performance. In Juande WE trust!
prime8 - August 18th, 2008 at 9:52 pm

yeah arshavin will bring the spuds into the top 4
but i thought you guys were gonna challenge with the current squad
wtf happened looked shite gainst boro
the king of sulk knows it and the rest of the world knows it
SPUDS are TERRIBLE no matter what’ mediocre maybe’ ya buy
and spuds will never be a big enough club for the real quality especially if they are seen making trouble when a top player realizes the limitations that being a spud has top 10 maybe and a milky cup every 20 years
no scouting no youth academy
nothing more than a wishful flavor of the day recruitment plan
what a joke what a serious shameful joke
Mase the arse - August 18th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
i think ramos is great. it’s just tottenham thats poor. its like man city, no matter how much you spend, the players you buy, you’ll still finish outside the top four, especially buying rejects (bentley and dos santos)
Shrimpfighter - August 18th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
I’m sick to the back teeth of these tasty stories of the likes of Arshavin, Santa Cruz, Corluka, Kanoute, Ashton, Forlan, Milito…and a dozen other such potential signings…Yes, they all sound rather good prospects in the minds eye…but we all know that we’re not going to get any of them. Levy seems reluctant to spend any more than he has taken in, so you just know that they’ll tease us with the big names and we’ll end up with Bent, Marge Simpson and Rick Waller up front.
You see if I’m not right.
deebo - August 18th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
after the sunderland game you will think he’s the best thing since sliced bread - mark my words. it will be tidy performance which we will win 2-0. I have just put £100 on it - I am that confident. if we can attract arshavin - we can attract huntelaar. we have a better history than chelsea and therefore we are a big club - its only a matter of time till we succeed and when we do you (cc) will be the first to jump on the bandwagon. I regularly visit WHL and am not an only singing when we’re winning character - I support my team thru the good times and the bad and the good times are very much on the horizon!

I do not think beating sunderland will make huntelaar nor anyone else want to leave for tottenham. arshavin wants to leave so that his children will learn english, hope they dont get the same english teacher as ramos

Borat - August 18th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
If Spurs were not a big name then why is every decent player being linked with us? Yes a lot of that chat is agents, but the fact that they are using Spurs tells you that we are a big club. We have signed Modric and Dos Santos and who have Ar5ena1 signed?? A sub that got subbed?? If they were such a big club then why isnt it them that is getting linked to every top name and having articles all over the web? Answer is they don’t and won’t which is why all of their sad, nothing better to do boring lives are spent hanging out in the Spurs blogs!
Michael Kenneth Hodgson - August 19th, 2008 at 12:16 am
Amauri, Alexandre Pato, Nicola Pozzi and Iaquinta, will be great!
reply borat - August 19th, 2008 at 12:22 am
fortunately arsenal do not need big signings. they buy cheap. it’s more like an investment. They also have a youth academy and a great youth system. thats the problem with tottenham, they have to buy to replenish their team.
hodgson so would kaka and robinho but it’s not going to happen.
chelsea4life - August 19th, 2008 at 1:07 am
Spurs are shit, they’ll always be shit, and no matter who they sign they’ll be shit.
Give it up, you are rubbish, you won’t get anywhere near the top 4 YET AGAIN. Chelsea will win the premiership. End.
Spurs 4 life - August 19th, 2008 at 1:35 am
The only way i see us thumping Sunderland is if Berba starts. We should not have sold Chimbonda or Steed. If Berba really wants to leave, tell him he can go in Jan transfer window. That will give us a few months to really search high & low for a suitable replacement. I believe Deco would have been awesome for us & what a steal Chelsea got him for.
Just like Jol , Ramos should be given the same treatment. If the team doesn’t perform, sack him!!!!!
Zekk67 - August 19th, 2008 at 4:07 am
I must say I am very surprised to see Tottenham being linked to great names in present-day football. However, the possibility of getting them is another matter. You may have the money but they might not come to a small club just because it’s in the Premier League. Villa has stated over and over again he is not leaving, yet Tottenham fans still dream about getting him. He will never leave Spain, let alone a club which barely made their way into the UEFA cup. Podolski is worth considering, but considering that he rejected a move to Man City, he will definitely not look to move to White Hart Lane. Huntelaar is good but if you get a bid accepted for him, what makes you think Man U, the team well known for making use of other team’s scouts to do the work for them, won’t bid and get him? Milito is 29, good player but as what Liverpool paid for Keane, not worth the big bucks paid. Amauri just moved, Pato and Pozzi are stars at Milan, Iaquinta most likely to a big club in Italy, so those are a big “NO” as well. Arshavin’s mind was firmly set at joining Barcelona and fell out with Zenit, thus he may join Spurs, but only because he could not stay. If Yeovil have the money to buy him, he would leave too. Dos Santos joined Tottenham, probably because Dos Santos find a regular spot with Barcelona. I think only Modric joined the club because he wanted to (or that they are the only club that bidded for him).
JJ - August 19th, 2008 at 5:17 am
Juande’s shopping list:
2 CB’s one experienced, one young up and coming star to cover king and woody, dawson is NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
1 Defensive minded midfielder
1 Striker maybe 2 if berbatov goes..an bring up pekhart!!
1 possible left winger
And maybe either bring some youngsters through or sign a few squad players, we have the smallest squad in the league now!
Spurs In Thailand - August 19th, 2008 at 5:56 am

Why is everyone so keen on Arshavin? He’s 27 and been playing in Russia all his life. If he were that good wouldn’t someone have snapped him up years ago? A few decent perfromances in the Euros and he’s been touted as the best thing since sliced bread. He also went missing in games at the same Championship don’t forget.

So utterly inevitable and hilariously unsurprising. A while back I commented on here saying that spudsicles would lose their first three matches and turn on everyone in their organisation. As it turns out, it only took you lot one defeat to give up. Well done.
But hey, there is always next season when you will surely, honestly, make the top four. Maybe you should buy a dozen or so new players from the continent. I’m sure that every single one of Europe’s top players would love to play for a club with such esteemed credentials as Totteringham. Provided that you pay them over the odds and let them showcase their talents for the clubs playing in the UCL.

Spurs r a north london club, pikeys just in it for the money and steal where they can, very gypsy styley. Spurs need another striker, a strong defensive midfielder and back up CD - everyone sees that. Arse fans only putting us down after 1 game, u can see they r scared - u can tell it when they write and spout crap. Care for another 5-1 bashing ??? children, OAP and castaways can come along Gooner trash, typical parasites … this is a story about Spurs but u just can’t keep away, can ya ?

Being linked to big names is SURELY WONT PROVE THAT SPUDS ARE BIG CLUB BUT SHOW US THAT THE CLUB DONT HAVE GREAT ACADEMY AND GOOD SCOUTING SYSTEM (not to mention u won’t get them). Do top4 (not your club) always linked to players and never really sign them?Spuds only sign well known and ready-made players and its a shame that they feel proud when they spend much.
Liverpool have gerrard
Chelsea have Terry
Man u have Scholes
Arsenal? Enough said!
Who u have?
Dont tell me Bale or Bostock.
They were well-known and overpriced when they join spuds.

In one season we have gone from a quartet of quality, proven, premier league strikers to Berbs (soon to be at Maure) and Bent. We seriously need to splash the cash, but I don’t think that there are many clubs ready to sell their 15 -20 goals a season men at this late stage of the transfer window. It is obvious that we need a replacement target man, who could adapt rapidly to the physicality of the Prem. The one player whose name never seems to come up on these boards but who would appear to be perfect would be Kevin Kuranyi. IMO this guy would be a perfect replacement for Berba, he is good in the air, has a bag of tricks and has international pedigree in and around the box. With regards to Arshavin, I really don’t think he is over priced when you look at what Liverpool paid for Keane. Arshavin and Keane are very similar players with the exception that Arshavin has more pace and is marginally younger.

Im sure everyone(with some sense of football) will disagree with him(wrote in 11.42pm)

Peace.

as anybody wondered why we played roma second in the italian league won 5-0 played classy burra just below us with robbo in goals with the burra weakened by sales while spurs were a better side and got beat and what did southgate say its the last six weeks wel we beat celtic borrusia roma never conceded a goal .So scored 33 goals and conceded 5 two of them against a 17 year old keeper the lesson is you can play a weakened defence at home with the crowd behind you but away from home you need to play your strogest defence southgate played the team i would have played away if he playes the same team aginst liverskint he would get beat. this team would have beat the burra king right back woodgate dawson bale in the middle huddlestone jenas right winger bentley left moderic upfront perkhart and bent . on the bench berbey lennon zakora ohara dervitte sanches bostock rose

I think that Forlan would be a good addition. BUT we must keep hold of Berbs. We should be breaking the bank and our backs to keep him, then we can really mount a challenge against Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea. We should also be putting in a bid for Rio Ferdinand to partner Woodgate. Without these sorts of signings we won’t be able to challenge the big four.

forlan will do just as well as he did at manu. but your right keep berba and i think you mean anton not rio

YIDO! - August 20th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Standard 4-4-
GK: Gomes
RB: Hutton/Zokora CB: Woodgate/Dawson CB: King/Ferdinand LB: Bale/Ekotto
RM: Bentley/Lennon CM: Modric/Jenas CM:Appiah/Huddlestone LM:Dos Santos
CF: Bent CF:Berba/Santa Cruz
to be fair its only been the first game of the season. and these are only a few suggestions
BUT, if Berbatov goes. we need to strengthen our strike force. Santa Cruz ideally. Millito and Forlan aren’t proven enough.
Stephen Appiah is just a suggestion, not the classiest of players but a tough customer, and will cover the defence very adequately.
Anton Ferdinand would be good cover for king and Woodgate, because of their inconsistency with injuries.
Arshavin to be fair is far too expensive and the deal has gone cold. Hence no inclusion.
COYS! Have a fucking good season!
