Birmingham forward not keen on a move to Celtic or Rangers
by stresster on August 19th, 2008Ever since Birmingham City were relegated from the Premier League on the last day of the season, there have been plenty of rumours linking James McFadden with a move to a top flight club, whether that’s in England or Scotland.

It’s clear that the media can’t really come to terms with the former Everton forward playing Championship football for a season, despite being part of a team with a strong chance of instant promotion to the big time. Surely Faddy would jump at the chance to play for an Old Firm side in his native Scotland wouldn’t he? Not according to the player himself, as quoted by Setanta.
“I wasn’t at Ibrox or Parkhead last week so that’s how far those rumours went,” he said: “It’s hard to tell [if I will be at Birmingham when the transfer window closes] but at the minute I’m there unless I’m told otherwise.
“To be perfectly honest I wouldn’t entertain a move to Glasgow.
“I’m happy to be playing outside Scotland at the minute, especially with the kind of press that’s been going about for Rangers and Celtic. I’m quite happy to be away from it.
“I read the papers and I watch the television and there has been some bad press for Rangers recently. I’m afraid that’s what you get at the two biggest teams, there are always stories to be written, whether they are good or bad.”
You would think footballers could handle a bit of bad press when the rewards for being a Premier League footballer are so great. Nevertheless, this is heartening news for Birmingham City fans, who would clearly like to keep hold of the Scottish international. With no club seemingly interested in signing him, would retaining his services be a huge boost?

IF NO CLUBS HAVE COME IN FOR MCFADDEN. THEN BIRMINGHAM WOULD NOT BE RETAINING HIS SERVICES WOULD THEY THEY’D JUST BE KEEPING HIM ON HIS CONTRACT. IT’D TAKE SOME STUPID OFFER FOR BIRMINGHAM TO SELL HIM ABOVE £5M. SINCE GLASGOW RANGERS AND CELTIC ARE NOT A OPTION FOR HIM WHAT OTHER PREMIERSHIP CLUB HAS IN EXCESS OF £5M AVAILABLE FOR A STRIKER? CERTAINLY NO TOP TEAM WOULD WANT THE PLAYER. YOU CAN SAFLEY RULE OUT - STOKE CITY, HULL CITY, WEST BROM, ARSENAL, MANCHESTER UNITED, CHELSEA, TOTTENHAM, LIVERPOOL, EVERTON, ASTON VILLA - THAT’S 10 OUT OF 20 GONE ALREADY. MANCHESTER CITY WON’T BE LOOKING AT HIM AS THEY THINK THEY SHOULD BE GETTING CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PLAYERS. NEWCASTLE ARE SIGNING OWEN TO A NEW DEAL AND DON’T HAVE THE FUNDS OR DON’T WANT MCFADDEN SO THAT RULES THEM OUT. YOU CAN SAFLEY RULE OUT WIGAN. PORTSMOUTH HAVE NO MORE CASH TO SPEND ON A TRIKER OR ANYONE. SO THAT’S 14 OUT OF 20 GONE. SUNDERLAND HAVE NO CHANCE WHO’D WANT TO PLAY FOR KEANE? BOLTON HAVE ALREADY BROUGHT A NEW STRIKER AND SPENT HUGE MONEY AS HAVE FULHAM. 18 TEAMS FROM 20 DOWN. I THINK HIS ONLY POSSIBLE DESTINATIONS ARE - BLACKBURN, AND WEST HAM. IF BLACKBURN KEEP ROQUE LIKE THEY SAID AND WEST HAM KEEP ASHTON THEN THEY WON’T BE AFTER MCFADDEN. THE PRESS WILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE FACT THAT MCFADDEN WILL BE PLAYING CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL.
