It’s about time we started reading about players linked with a move to Ewood Park, rather than away from the Lancashire club. Brad Friedel and David Bentley have already upped sticks, while Roque Santa Cruz and Stephen Warnock are both being linked with a move, despite playing an important role in Rovers’ 3-2 win at Goodison Park. Could there be a new face at Blackburn this week?

Setanta reckon so, claiming that Paul Ince is close to signing Vince Grella from Torino. The club are no strangers to signing Australians, having acquired Lucas Neill and Brett Emerton in the past few seasons, while Ryan Nelsen comes from New Zealand. Could they be adding another Antipodean to their ranks?

Blackburn Rovers are believed to be closing in on a £4 million deal to land Torino midfielder Vince Grella.

The Ewood Park outfit have expressed an interest in the Australia international and developments are expected this week.

Grella is in London representing his country in a friendly against South Africa at Loftus Road and it is anticipated that he will meet Paul Ince in the English capital on Tuesday.

A fee was reportedly agreed between the two clubs on Monday to permit Rovers to discuss personal terms with the 28-year-old.

Rovers have plenty of cash after landing £15 million from the sale of David Bentley to Tottenham, although some of this did get passed on to Arsenal. Nevertheless, Paul Ince might consider he’s done a great piece of business if he can sign Grella, especially as Aussies like Tim Cahill, Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell have thrived in the top flight.
