Can Roy Keane attract Anton Ferdinand to Sunderland after he rejected a Newcastle move?

Anton Ferdinand, known for being a mere shadow of his big brother Rio, looks set for a move to Sunderland after West Ham accepted an offer for him.
Earlier this summer, Newcastle had made an offer for Ferdinand, and St James’ has been a Mecca for craptastic defenders in recent years. A long list of shambling goons have stumbled around their defence, from Titus Bramble and Jean-Alain Boumsong to the legend of defensive crapsters; Marcelino, a man who cost 5 million quid, and who only played 17 games in 3 years. Anton Ferdinand, would surely have slipped right in up there but apparently refused to sign for the Toon.

West Ham United yesterday confirmed they have accepted an £8m bid from Sunderland for Anton Ferdinand but Roy Keane knows that persuading the central defender to move to Wearside may prove difficult.
Earlier this summer Newcastle were told West Ham would sell them the 23-year-old, who has declined an offer to extend his current contract at Upton Park. However, that green light was swiftly followed by an emphatic refusal on the part of Ferdinand to even consider relocating to Tyneside. (Guardian)
Nabbing Ferdinand after he turned his nose up to a Newcastle move would be a big coup for Keane, but is he up to the task?

to be honest i dont remember this guy rejecting us, but if he did, thank god for that. I dont know about you lot, but i would much rather have Fabricio Coloccini then Anton Ferdinand lol

As a toon fan i feel the same way about Ferdinand ”rejecting” us as i did when harry redknapp did - lucky escape! the boy is shocking, another baby bentley boy. U lot doon the road are welcome to him but let me say this - johnny evens he aint!

To be honset I understand what u mags are saying about him as you are probably a better team than us but Anton is better than what we currently have so I would be happy to see him signed up.

Well put Scot_safc.. I’d of welcomed him to the Toon but just cause we’re well short on numbers!
Although i must say i dont think we ever did really want him.. There’s been 1001 players linked with us, but minus Modric, Woodgate and there might be one more i cant think of, we’ve got everyone we’ve set out to.
I wouldnt be surprised if MA being the businessman he is, isnt working with the local and southern press in letting them know of our red herring targets.. That way the clubs who would be competition in the market find out about them, and our real targets remain untapped..

we didn’t even bid for him you tit. if we had a bid accepted then west ham would have admitted it like they have with this bid from sunderland. By the way, we’ve also had some very tidy defenders at nufc, we got the best out of woodgate, albert was brilliant and we now have beye who is goodenough to get into any team.

Why comment on this article when you’re clearly not a Newcastle United fan?
Have you got nothing better to do than search the internet for articles where you think your opinion is worth something? Make yourself sound cool by slagging off Newcastle United like so many others. At least have a bit of originality.
Phillip Albert was an outstanding player, have you seen him fly up the pitch? And his goals against Man United and Wimbledon, most centre forwards would struggle to pull them off.
And Harry Redknapp thinks he’s the gangster of football, when he’s nothing more than a chump. Apart from winning an FA Cup with a sketchy goal, what makes him better than Sam Allyardyce, Alan Curbishley or Gary Megson, who have all won f all?
