Everton manager fails to sign Portuguese duo & leads Toffee’s charge from the edge of the Top 4 to midtable drudgery…
by Dexter on August 19th, 2008Everton fans have had a wretched summer, and according to the Daily Mail, it is about to get even worse, as the deals for the Portuguese duo Moyes has been trailing both collapse.
Moyes has been chasing Sporting Lisbon’s Moutinho for the whole summer, and an excruciating game of cat & mouse has ensued, with Sporting demanding more and more money while Everton inched their bids higher slowly but surely. Sporting now look set to slam the door shut in Moyes’ face, and with Tiago also set to turn his nose up at a move to England, Moyes will be desperately scrambling for anyone with a pulse.

Everton were facing more frustration in their efforts to bolster a threadbare squad last night after appearing to miss out on Joao Moutinho and Tiago.
Despite lengthy negotiations with Juventus over Tiago, and appearing to be on the verge of agreeing a fee for a season-long loan, Everton chiefs were rocked by claims the former Chelsea midfielder had no intention of returning to England.
Moutinho appears to be out of reach after Sporting Lisbon held firm over a £20million-plus valuation. (Daily Mail)
How long will the Everton faithful be able to tolerate a manager who suits his “Dithering Dave” moniker more and more as each day passes? With the transfer window springing shut on September 1st, will Moyes have to settle for second best?

Nice to see you’re up-to-date there - Sky repoterted at 10am today that it’s the Goalkeeper Tiago who’s not interested in a move to England.
The Mail - being lazy - got it wrong and, yourselves, being equally lazy, repeated the error. Apart from that, spot on you and the Mail.

How dare you malign David Moyes. As an Everton fan of over forty years I have seen the good and not so good times at Goodison Park. Moyes came into this job with his eyes open and has worked constantly in the most frustrating of environments, but like Bill Kenwright has always striven to do the best for the club. The fans trust Moyes, and can do without mischief making by yours or any other paper. He will not squander the limited funds at his disposal and make the right purchases instead of panic buys - like so many of his (alledgedly) more illustrious contempories.

EfcMacca, To be honest nearly every Evertonian I know calls him by this name, since about 3 seasons ago when an ex player said it was what most of the players called him. It sounds a bit unfair to me, especially after he DM publicly said he gave that idiot Bill K enwright a list of 25 names at the start of Summer. Well what has he done about it ? F*** all !!! Bring on the EGM on Sept 3rd.
