Rafa B STILL wants Gareth Barry at Liverpool!

The Guardian reports that Liverpool’s Spanish mastermind Rafa B is still yearning to put Gareth Barry in a Liverpool shirt.
Even the fact that Barry is now cup-tied for the initial rounds of European competition hasn’t lessened Rafa’s insatiable Barry-lust, and he is still pleading with his American paymasters to come up with the readies so he can bag the Villa midfielder once and for all.
Rafael Benítez will require a radical change of heart from Liverpool’s owners to complete his dogged pursuit of Gareth Barry, even if he raises the £18m Aston Villa want for the England international.
The Liverpool manager is continuing to ask Tom Hicks and George Gillett to relent on his summer transfer priority, despite their insistence it is Barry’s price-tag and not the financial situation at Anfield that has stalled the four-month transfer saga.
The Liverpool manager will not concede defeat in efforts to persuade the Anfield hierarchy to sanction the Barry transfer and is prepared to raise revenue for the club by selling Xabi Alonso and/or Jermaine Pennant, Andriy Voronin and Steve Finnan before September 1. (Guardian)

it’s really unbelieveable as far as my understanding goes.
since may - that’s 4 monthes now - all we, liverpool’s fans, hear about is berry here and berry there - every day of every week. but now - after being filled with expection from our liverpool manager about all kind of new signing in the end, nothing happend.
all is benitez has done is to prove he’s full of shit. and yes, i am a liverpool fan. now he’s going to fuss an ego fight with Hicks and Giles because the block his move.
in my opinion, it does not matter no more. berry won’t play for us. he wanted to play champions league. now he can’t. so what the point??? benitez can’t line him in any of of those games. so why should he change his club, his home and his glory of villa player for another team that’s all it’s prestige is gone. can’t understand why in the hell are we still reading and seeing everywhere that idiotic subject every fucking time.

and i don’t even care if he’s worth the 18m price tag. it’s benitez choice and he’s the manager, but all this chaotic order that he’s done with the press is just stupid and childish.

Elad, it’s nice to see you admit that you “don’t understand it”. Because you clearly are rather ignorant about just about every issue you’re attempting to discuss. I don’t know why you’re calling Barry “berry” - if it’s a joke, it’s a bad one. And if you think that’s his name, well, you’re clearly not a football fan, let alone a Liverpool fan.
You also claim that if Barry moves to Liverpool he won’t be able to play any CL games. Elad, he WILL be eligible to play in the knockout stages. And he will also be able to play in every CL game Liverpool are involved in for years to come.
You also claim that there would be no prestige in him joining Liverpool now. Well, my fellow Liverpool fan, did you know that Liverpool are the most successful British club of all time and are the most successful club in Europe over the last 5 years? Sounds pretty prestigious to me.
Also, what do you think Rafa has said to the media about his pursuit of Barry? It has been Martin O’Neill, sitting on the panel on Euro 2008 Match of the Day on live television for half the summer, that has been chatting away about Liverpool and their pursuit of Barry. Not Rafa. Every newspaper in Europe (and Partik Berger) have also gone public about the chase. Not just Rafa.
Finally, I would be devastated if our manager didn’t enter an “ego fight” with Hicks and Gilette as they attempt to systematically drive him out of our club and taint our legacy and reputation across the world. What would happen to our beloved club if Rafa just rolled over?!
We are Liverpool fans, and in Rafa we trust. You should do likewise, Elad.

I live in North London.Tottenham. I am surrounded by 42% Man,utd, 42% Arsenal 6%Chelsea 6% Spurs and a (1%) Bolton Fan and 3 (3%) of us who are Liverpool fans and I am sick to death of hearing that liverpool is just a cup side…..What makes it hurt even more is that it is true. We have taken over that mantle from Chelsea,,,,Five year plan Rafa…..You could win the premiership with a fifty year plan….. I am sure that if Roy Keane, The Great Kevin Keegan, Pual ince, or Harry Rednapp had spent £182m on players they would be right up there with Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd fighting it out for the title every year and not scrapping it out for 4th place, worse still can you imagine if Everton and David Moyes had that kind of money?…
