Rovers to make CHEEKY £9.5m bid for Valencia star
by jakepjohnson on August 19th, 2008After three weeks of searching for a replacement for David Bentley, Paul Ince looks to have identified his target, and plans to submit a cheeky £9.5m bid for a Spanish winger.
Valencia winger Joaquin is reportedly the player that Paul Ince wants to bring to Ewood Park to help fill the Bentley-shaped gap. However, Ince’s €12m (£9.5m) may be a stumbling block, considering that Los Che paid €25m (£19.7m) to Real Betis for the player just two years ago.
However, it is not a silly as it first sounds. Since arrive at the Mestalla, Joaquin has struggled to recapture the form that saw him linked with Manchester United and Chelsea. The winger was also left out of the Euro 2008-winning Spain side, despite being an international regular for the past three major tournaments.
The 27-year-old would fit into the right-flank gap perfectly, and may be able to rebuild his career in the Premiership, after also being linked to Everton and Liverpool this summer.
Reports also suggest that Valencia vice-president Fernando Gomez will be meeting with Joaquin’s agent today to discuss a possible move to Blackburn, should the player wish to leave. According to his team-mate Alexis though, Joaquin would turn down a move:
I don’t think we have any problems. He doesn’t want to go.
He’s very happy in Valencia and I wouldn’t want him to leave because to have a person like him in the dressing room is a joy.
Valencia may be happy to cut their losses and allow the poorly-performing winger to leave and Blackburn have had recent success with restoring failing players ability in the for of Roque Santa Cruz and Benni McCarthy. Perhaps the move does not seem such a bad idea, and Paul Ince may succeed with his cheeky offer.
