Spurs given £20m STAR ultimatum: Will Ramos and Levy accept?
by Mr Comfort on August 19th, 2008Daniel Levy receives a last-ditch ultimatum over a Russian ace that they have been chasing for weeks!
Why not join the debate at the COS forum?
Zenit St Petersburg have told Tottenham that they will not sell Andrei Arshavin, the Russia playmaker, for less than £20 million. “It is take it or leave it,” Dennis Lachter, Arshavin’s agent, said. “That is the final price.” (Times Online)
Apparently following the north London side’s decision to not continue to pursue Arshavin, his Zenit side decided one last time to reach a compromise by dropping their asking price a tad. Will this lead to a firm bid from Tottenham for the impressive Russian, I am not sure it will? I think that they believe Andrei is not worth such an exorbitant fee and they would do well to haggle some more as they will not want to end up stuck with an unhappy player and are more likely to sell him for a little less.
Zenit are in many ways being held over a barrel in much the same way Manchester United are trying to coax a smaller valuation for Dimitar Berbatov. At least either way this will be resolved in the next two weeks! Do Spurs fans think they should match the asking price for AA or give up?

buying arshevin should not be a replacement for keane or berba he wont score the same amount of goals as those two players he is an attacking midfield player not a striker we need two strikers that wll score 40-50 goals a season between them we should not have sold defoe the player was worth a lot more than what he was sold for huntellaar is a must i like benni mcarthy also with ashevin just behind them we need a good holding defender with modric and bentley for other positions with another defender as cover for king and woodgate
Longlivetheking26 - August 19th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
bet defoe regrets not signing that contract now…
Spurs4Life - August 19th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
I would rather spend the money on Ashton from WHU at least he knows the PL and it’s players, I feel that we have invested a lot in non PL players and one more could mean one more year not in the CL…. Look at our last Ruskie Rebrov, what a flop he was, lets sell the sulk, because anything over 22million is a good bit of business for a guy that age… As for the Ars, one goal in 5 mins then sod all for 85mins …. and they say we should be worried… they more than anybody in the top 3 this year are the ones who are in dire need of help…. and they in my view will struggle to keep the top 4 place, it could be us, everton or the villa, but it will not be the Ars in the top 4 this year….

Bring him in ! this guy is quality he will be brilliant for spurs come on levy pay the bloody money! IF YOU WANT TO COMPETE WITH THE BIG FOUR YOU MUST PAY THE SAME TRANSFER MONEY FOR SIGNINGS AS THE BIG FOUR!!!
flycatcher - August 19th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
we need arshavin and another quality striker, BUT we also need a ball winning DM and another out and out defender
neil the yid - August 19th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
forget arshaven and ferdanand, get a decent striker.and no we dont want m.owen who is past his best. come on if we want 4th or 5th spot do it now.
Simgoon - August 19th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Pay the money. Anyone willing to go to WHL shouldn’t be passed up as they may be few and far between.
Though, strange isn’t it that no other club in Europe has put a bid in for Arshavin if he is such a ‘quality’ player.
DublinYid - August 19th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
This Ferdinand thing all of a sudden doesn’t look like a bad idea. I now, in a hyprocritical way, hope we sign him.
Why didn’t we try to fix this major problem since the window opened? I am worried yet hopeful

Forget arshavin and buy Huntelaar plus a defensive midfielder with a good engine. We lose the ball in midfield and the players we have are not exactly bone crunching in the tackle - only trouble is there are not many around.
Spurt - August 20th, 2008 at 7:16 am
Arshavin, Huntelaar & Veloso please.
billiospur - August 20th, 2008 at 7:45 am

LETS SPELL THIS OUT SLOWLEY WE NEED ARSHAVIN LIKE UTD NEED PAUL ROBINSON IN GOAL FOR 3 SEASONS ARE DEFENCE HAS BEAN SHAKEY AND OLD PLAYERS ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE OVER NIGHT GOMES IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR AND I AM SURE WILL BE A MASSIVE HIT BUT HE NEEDS TO LOOK AT OLD TAPES OF SPURS LAST YEAR AND CROSSES LONG SHOTS AND FREE KICKS WERE OUR DOWNFALL LETS LOOK AT IT FROM A PLAYERS POINT OF VIEW FULL BACKS ECOTTO COULD BE A FINE FULL BACK IF HE DEFENDED MORE INSTEAD OF ATTAKING WE HAD MORE THANN WE NEEDED IN THAT DEPARMENT. THAT MENT CROSSES WERE NO GOOD WE SHOUL HAVE PLAYED SIX FOOT PERKHART TO COUNTER THIS BERBEYS HEADS AT UTD NOW WOODGATE IS NOT FIT AND DAWSON WATCHES THE MAN SOMTIMES IN STEAD OF THE BALL IN CORNERS AND CROSSES LIKE WEN MIDO SCORED . AND GOMES NEEDS TO START COMMANDING IS AREA OR GOALS WILL FLOW FROM DEAD INSTEAD HE FLICKED IT ON TO THE BAR SORT THIS OUT AND WE WILL HAVE A GOOD SEASON.
Richi Rich - August 20th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Let’s go for G.Barry ……….. swap Jenas + 10m for him
Corluka is needed as our right back as Huttons out
Lescott for 10m as Everton need the cash & we need a Lb
Dairra or Senna tro partner Modric in center Mid
D.Capel for left mid as Bale is injury prone
Arshavin as a replacement for Keane
& a out - out striker as we can’t reley on Bent all season
COYS spend some cash as we’ve got 44m so far & spent 45m
wow - August 20th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Wow, ultimatum is a long word for you, Mr Comfort. It must have got you loads more hits!
Spurs est 1882* - August 20th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Forget Arshavin, he is wayy too much money. He is 26, never played in a top league, and wants £80k a week. Keane has played in two of the three best leagues in the world, has been very successful for Spurs in their past campaigns, and is one of the best forward playing players in the league, and is the same age. How is Arshavin and Keane worth the same???
We should go for Huntelaar and Villa, then get a top draw DM. I even think we could afford not to get a new CB if we get a midfield that helps out a little.
adgey - August 20th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
NO!!!!! Please sign arshavin he was the best player by far at the euros who cares if hes 27 berbatov is and hes 30mil so sell him hes rubbish for spurs.
We need arshavin if we want to be serious top four contenders!!!!
if we sign players like forlan who were apparently looking at we will get laughed at and be in the relagation mix.
SIGN A WORLD CLASS PLAYER LIKE ARSHAVIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
adgey - August 20th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
no offence i loved robbie he was god for spurs but hes gone get over it!
Arshavin is a million times better what has keane ever done?????
19mil for him so pay 20mil for andrei i god damn beg u levy
Spurs est 1882* - August 20th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Adgey, what has Arshavin ever done? What makes you think he is a million times better? Lets face it, the Russian league is far from top quality, and how many players do well in a tournament then never play a good match again.
Arshavin is too old to be playing his first season in a league of merit. At least Berba played in Germany.
RAYSPURS - August 20th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
DON’T KNOW WHY PEOPLE KEEP ON MENTIONING KEANE WHEN HE IS GONE.FIRST OF ALL KEANE WAS SPURS TOP SCORER COS BERBA USED TO FEED HIM THE BALLS, WITHOUT BERBA, HE IS ORDINARY PLAYER,WHEN HE WAS WITH INTER ,HE WAS A SUB THE SAME WHEN HE PLAYED WITH DEFOE OR BENT,AND THE SAME WILL HAPPEN WHEN HE PLAYS WITH TORRES.ANYWAY THE POINT IS WE HAVE TO GET A CLASSY STRIKER,AND ONLY TWO OR THREE ARE AVAILABLE,AND NO GOOD COMPARING THEM WITH KEANE OR BERBA.IF BERBA WANTS TO REALLY PLAY HE IS THE MOST COMPLETE STRIKER IN THE PL,COS HE IS TALENTED.
fiftypeehead - August 20th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
absolutely, totally and utterly spot on rayspurs

Bloody shame, that’s all I can say. Oh well, maybe Berba’s staying and we’ll be getting a decent DM and CB….hopefully
LegendYid - August 21st, 2008 at 3:42 am
People talk so much crap about Keano. Only good with Berba, this is the guy who was player of the year every year and even formed a very good partnership with Mido and has 34 goals for Ireland in 80 odd games. Sure Berba made him better. It was always said of Keane that he had so much talent but he needed to play with better players to mature his game, like almost all talented players have to if they are to fulfill their ability. I think Keane also helped Dimi to improve to world class. They both went up a level.
Having said all of this I think Arshavin is better than Keane. I’ve seen about 10 games of his and he was utterly brilliant in 9 of them. He looked like one the best players in the world, not just in the top 8-15 strikers in the world which Keane is. Arshavin has Keane’s football brain but he also has a lightening pace and a strong shot.
