Spurs ‘need to work harder’ according to defender - or do they just need better players?
by stresster on August 19th, 2008Tottenham’s failure to beat Sunderland on Saturday will leave them travelling to Stamford Bridge on Sunday 31st August with no more than a point from their first two matches. There wasn’t much between Spurs and Middlesbrough last weekend, although the former are in danger of getting off to the same slow start which dogged the campaign last term. By the sounds of things, it’s going to take a while before the team get their act together under Juande Ramos.

The Daily Mirror reports that Jonathan Woodgate is a bit peeved about losing to his previous club and he’s called on his Tottenham team to start working harder as a group. You might be forgiven for thinking that hard work and a desire to win is a pre-requisite in any sporting contest if you want to beat the opposition, although it sounds as though Spurs could do more when they lose possession.
And the England centre-half has told his team-mates that going forward is only half the game. “We had a lot of the ball, but lost it too often and have to work harder as a team to get it back,” said the Boro-born star.
“When we’ve got the ball we’re a good team but when we haven’t we have to be more compact.
“It’s going to take a bit of time but let’s see where we end up at the end of the season.”
Just where will Tottenham end up at the end of the season? It’s unfortunate that this Dimitar Berbatov saga hasn’t been settled before the campaign got underway and it’s surely annoying to the fans that a player is coming on as sub whose heart clearly isn’t in it. Will this be another season where the most that fans can expect is a League Cup success?

i got bored reading your post so i don’t even know how it ended, but please take the caps lock off, it does not illustrate your opinions any more clearly, it just makes you look even more terminally retarded. ‘testers’ - i think your the only one who needs to be tested my friend, on your grasp of the English language. Good day sir, I hope your family contracts MRSA.
Poor Spuds - August 19th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
by WORK HARD… the author hear means they need to work on their FOOTBALL very hard (that is to survive the relegation threat)….
not on their talking n dreaming skills….
even boro makes Spuds look like a bunch of clueless kids….
David Villa - August 19th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Doesn’t matter how hard they work, they will always be shit and will at last be relegated this season.
yeah - August 19th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
i agree villa. Ramos has purchased well but there were four players who all pretty much do the same thing (modric, bentley, dos santos, and lennon). Kind of like keane and torres and we all saw an example of this in the second half of the liverpool - sunderland match when keane and torres went for the same ball and torres ended up kicking the ball at keane
none of them play the holding role and none them are naturally left wingers. Bent is not a starting striker for a top half club. Arshavin is not the striker they need, he’s another creative midfielder.
John ADAM - August 19th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Now that the season has started, I think it is too late to sell Berbatov who, in my opinion, should not have sat on the bench for 65 minutes in our match against Boro. The outcome might have been different if he had played right from the start because of his skill in creating goal scoring opportunities. It is unfortunate that we spend too much time chasing players (even after the start of the season) that we do not seem to be able to get. Instead, we should consolidate on the quality players we already have, including Berbatov that we should keep, and get the team to settle down quickly into winning form. I should add, though, that we need a good defender badly This is a top priority.

agreed adams….need a good defender OR replace dawson for one of the defenders on the bench like….king or tommy boy. should have played berbatov and bale from the beginning. Ramos was disillusioned if he thought playing a weaker side away at middlesborough would win the match. should have looked at results last year when both arsenal and manu had problems at the riverside
davy41 - August 19th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Listen you knobs are you understanding what the sulky berbs is saying- i want to play for manure. He wants to leave us for them so why would we want to keep him.Get rid of him i say and now.Yes he is brilliant but only if wants to play for us and if we don’t sell him this time we will have a real fight on to stay in the premireship. We have two strikers Bent -who can’t score and berbs who well could not care less if he scored for us .I am fed up hearing let him play in the reserves that will teach him.Wrong that will cost us.This is the fault of Levy why does he want to keep a player who wants to play for another team. You stupid knob Levy just sell him and go buy Cruz.If he costs 18ml so be it.We paid 16ml for that twat bent.Get it sorted levy you KNOB
circynob - August 19th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
what berbatov needs is a slap on the back of leg[behind the knee] oh yerrrss
billiospur - August 20th, 2008 at 8:04 am
alas the Berba period is over ,new period ahead so..sell .thnx ,bye and..sort and balance…… levy……do we have enough steel in the team ….at key points of a game to tip in our favour
Spuds - August 20th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
I reckon spuds need the two young portugese starlets, Veloso and Moutinho. Both can play deep, veloso can play cb aswell, and moutinho can play anywhere in midfield.
Keep berba and have modric and behind him and bentley and dos santos supplying him, with jenas and moutinho making box to box runs, with veloso protecting the defense.
That’d be exciting.
