Why don’t Liverpool’s limbo-bound rejects join Everton??
by Dexter on August 19th, 2008Liverpool gaffer Rafa B is a big Gareth Barry fan, that much is evident. The Spaniard has been stalking his quarry for the whole summer now, and such was his desire to nab Gareth that he offered Steve Finnan as a potential makeweight. Unfortunately, Martin O’Neill didn’t take the bait.
All this, though, has left Steve Finnan feeling like an unwanted puppy. Like Xabi, Rafa had made it clear that he was more than happy to see Finnan leave, and now the deal is off (and the Irishman has recovered from his hernia op), poor Steve is left to wander around like a Shakespearian ghost….
Steve Finnan, the defender, has admitted that his future with Liverpool is in “limbo”. He has recovered from a hernia operation during the summer, but has yet to play this season and was offered as a potential makeweight when Rafael Benítez, the Liverpool manager, tried unsuccessfully to sign Gareth Barry from Aston Villa. “Limbo sounds about right,” Finnan said. “There’s a big squad and I have been trying to get into the team.”
Finnan, who could return to the Ireland side for their friendly against Norway in Oslo tomorrow night, has discussed the issue with Benítez, but declined to elaborate. “We have spoken about it, but I don’t think I will say too much more,” he said. (The Times)
Surely Everton, a team with a (supposed) whopping transfer kitty, but seemingly no one to spend it on, should cast a glance over Stanley Park towards Xabi and Finnan. The situation at Everton is so dire that they can barely fill the bench, and they are in desperate need of bodies.

Dexter You Bell why would we pay the stupid over inflated prices that the deluded RS would slap on the heads of there average benchwarmers. We will bide our time and get the right people for us you thick idiot.
Thomas - August 19th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Why would they you fucking idiot?
Bloosh1te - August 19th, 2008 at 10:42 pm

Everton should go for Pennant and Voronin — Finnan and Alonso are too good for them
peter - August 20th, 2008 at 2:55 am
Darren Corless, how can you seriously say that Alonso is an “average benchwarmers?” you are obviously the thick idiot. Alonso on his day is one of ther best passers and best playmakers in the league. oh, and by the way, you’re a nob shank!
Jason Broome - August 20th, 2008 at 3:58 am
Even though Alonso would be an excellent signing for us and is a great friend of Arteta I feel that our own transfer targets are both young and excellent. Finnan however is better quality than anything we have at full-back and at the right price could fix a troubled area.
Rafa’s trial and error management technique is causing problems at Liverpool. Players need to feel settled and the man doesn’t know the first thing about man-management. Shankly and Paisley must be spinning while Dalglish holds his head in despair.
The likes of Hansen, Lawrenson and Whelan would probably be shipped too for some over priced, over paid nobody. Rafa needs to inspire loyalty in his players to recapture Liverpools golden era.

In all seriosness, neither would get near the everton 1st team with everyone fit. Moyes only buys players better than they already have. This is oneof the main reasons he has seen Everton progress in the last 5 years.
Thos 2 just aren’t good enough.
redted - August 20th, 2008 at 8:32 am
xabi alonso not good enough for everton!? seriously?
Caoimhin De Barry - August 20th, 2008 at 8:47 am
Davo & Darren, you pair of knob jockies, if moyes is that good and only buys players better than what he has then for a start he needs to buy approx 9 players (fit ones). Secondly if you think that Alonso is only a benchwarmer then the Everton first eleven should have blisters on there arse all season as none of them are even near Alonso’s class.

I cud not care less what happens at l´pool but as a football fan, alonso is a fantastic footballer wif an excellent range of passing and awareness.now the fact that not so long it was as much him as gerrard that inspired l´pool to win the champs league.I feel that rafa is making a rod for his own back.and he as much as the owners is the 1 that is rocking the l´pool boat.its obvious that he has a talented team that is need of a quality winger.if barry means that much to him then why get plessis and lucas?I can totally agree wif the owners in the sense that they dont want to sanction another 18m when there is plenty of the same already at the club.the actual problem cud be not the owners or lack of funds but rafa himself!
Caoimhin De Barry - August 20th, 2008 at 9:05 am
Maybe, just maybe there is a grain of truth in what you are saying, Calvo
wig - August 20th, 2008 at 10:48 am
id deffo take finnan for a couple of million but alonso would cost abar 15mil to much for him!!
calvo - August 20th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
thanks Caoimhin De Barry, its only an outsider looking in and giving an opinion.Im not saying that rafa is a bad manager not at all but i feel that the way in which he is handling this is messy.he has had a decent amount of money from the owners to be fair for example he asked for a 20+goal striker and was given the funds,he asked them for the cash for mascherano and was given the cash.not to mention for the various other players that he has spent on.every manager wants to improve his team/squad fact!but at the same time a manager has to manage what he has and create the best that he can.which is nothing to do with the owners and “lack”of backing which i feel that some supporters are too quik to jump on.if the owners are that bad they wud not have supported him in signing masch o torres.and shud they eventually grant him the money for barry then he HAS to deliver.again just an opinion.
