£3 million defender leaves Cardiff for Celtic - and has a swipe at former manager
by stresster on August 20th, 2008It’s something of a blow to lose your best defender just one match into the season, especially when you’re gunning for a top six finish in the Championship after an FA Cup final appearance last season. However, Dave Jones is going to have to cope without Glenn Loovens, who has now completed his switch from Cardiff to Celtic for £3 million - not a bad bit of business considering the Bluebirds acquired him for £250,000.
Nevertheless, there was definitely some friction surrounding this move, with the City manager claiming that the Dutchman would be making a mistake to go north of the border and play in essentially a two-team league. At least if he went to the Premier League, there would be twice as many teams going for the title! Wales Online reports that Loovens couldn’t give a hoot about Jones’ opinion and is delighted to be in Glasgow.
“He (Jones) has his opinion, I have mine, and mine is the one that counts. I have to see it with my own eyes, but there are no easy games in this league.
“I wanted to play for things again and I cannot wait to get started.
“I knew I would have to take a step back to take a step forward.
“It was my choice, but I knew I could eventually get back up again and here I am now at a huge club like Celtic. They are in the Champions League and wanted to deal quickly.”
Cardiff fans, will Loovens be a big loss this season, or do you have enough strength in depth to cope with his departure?

Yes he will obviously be missed, we will struggle this year without him and could struggle to finish in the top six. But let’s be realistic, when a club like Glasgow Celtic come calling you don’t knock them back. Sixty thousand home fans and probably the biggest away support in the world, champions league football and fighting for honours very season. Outside the top three in the premier league who else could have offered him that? (and none of these clubs wanted him) Sorry Dave you are wrong. Good luck to the lad i will certainly be looking out for him.

A 4 horse race in England? Bollocks!! LiverpOOl will finish 4th as always, Arsenal will be in 3rd and the only 2 teams who have a chance of winning the league are Chelsea and Man United.
Not since 2004 has Man U or Chelsea not taken 1st or 2nd. And since then Hearts have split the Old Firm in Scotland. It would appear OUR league is the more competitive! 2 teams out of 12 in the SPL and 2 outta 20 in the Preimiership.
