Ameobi suffers hamstring problem - bad news for Ipswich or Newcastle?
by stresster on August 20th, 2008It appeared that Shola Ameobi was about to end his eight-year association with Newcastle United, something that appeared to be delighting many Magpies fans. Despite making nearly 100 league starts in a black and white shirt, it’s fair to say that it’s been a stop-start career for the former England Under-21 international up to now, and that a fresh start is just what he needed.
However, just as it appeared that Ipswich were prepared to take a punt on the lanky striker, Setanta reports that a hamstring problem has been detected during the player’s medical, something that has put paid to the transfer. It leaves the striker on Newcastle’s books and means that Town will look elsewhere for a new forward.
“It’s disappointing but you have to be careful with hamstring injuries and we don’t want a repeat of last season when Shefki Kuqi joined us and suffered a hamstring injury in his first game,” Ipswich manager Jim Magilton told the club’s official website.
Ipswich fans, are you disappointed or relieved that you haven’t signed Ameobi? After all, Newcastle fans have hardly been glowing in their appraisal of their front man. Who should Magilton go after next?

The only good thing about Shola Ameobi is that you can sing the first line of WWE wrestler The Big Show’s theme music when he comes on as a sub.
“Welll its the Biiiig Shoooooo…”
Other than that he’s a 26 year old player living on the fact that he had one decent game against Barcelona.

I think that this is an outrage,
Sola is a good player who can change a game for us maybe he might not change a game against Man U or Chelsea but against mid table clubs.
And we are not exactly flushed with top class FIT strikers .
I say keep him this years cause with out doubt Owen and Viduka wont be fit all season.
And playing Duff behind Martins is not good enough if we want to win games
King Kev your my hero please please get it right !!!!!!!
Spiderman( guitterez ) looks good !!

I am an Ipswich fan and I am following closely that already 4 month saga. I think that most of the Town fans would welcome Shola at Portman Road but personally I think that he is not good enough to lead us to the Premiership. I liked him a lot during the Sir Bobby era at Newcastle but since then he is constantly injured. Moreover I am surprised that Jim Magilton was not aware of Sholas injuries and lost so much valuable time and efforts trying to get him just to see at the end that he has a hamstring injury?! I cannot believe that so I think something else is the main reason for stalling this transfer. I just hope that we can get a decent striker before the end of the transfer window. Otherwise it will be difficult for us to go up as the Championship gets stronger and stronger with more and more money involved…

I don’t know why everyone hates Ameobi so much..he’s a top striker in my eyes…! At least he’s fit and willing, Owen plays at most 7 games a season and earns enough money to cover 11 Ameobis…he’s a disgrace that fella, little scouse tw**…!
