Arsenal boss reckons that Theo Walcott will come good…Eventually!
by Dexter on August 20th, 2008Arsene Wenger is a big Theo Walcott fan, but he has asked for patience as the young speedster slowly matures. Walcott hasn’t had the easiest of rides, being thrust into the limelight by Sven Goran Eriksson, who decided to pick him for the England World Cup squad only to not play the young whelp at all.
Even though Theo’s progression hasn’t been as speedy or precocious as that of Wayne Rooney, who was enjoying impromptu applause from the England team in training sessions when he was just 17, Wenger still has lots of faith.
When asked about Theo’s inconsistent performances for Arsenal, Wenger said: “I am not worried. You have to give them time. He is 19 years old,” said Wenger.
“Theo is not yet completely there, but he can make decisions in big games. That will always be his strength. He is a boy who will always make progress, because he is intelligent and he knows where he wants to get and that is why I believe you have to patient with him,” (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/aug/20/arsenal.liverpool)
Will Theo add more consistency to his game this season, or will Arsenal fans have to wait a little longer for Walcott to realise his potential?
