Arsenal set to swipe Manchester United defender from under the nose of Man City…
by Dexter on August 20th, 2008Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a wily old fox and, when he saw that Mikael Silvestre was preparing to leave Man Utd and go to Man City, he instantly sent word to Silvestre that he wouldn’t mind having him at the Emirates. According to The S*n, Silvestre ditched Man City as soon as word of Arsenal’s interest wafted up north…
Just as Man City had nipped ahead of Portsmouth, Arsenal came wading in, arms outstretched, and look to have beaten Man City to the punch.
ARSENE WENGER has hijacked Manchester City’s bid to sign Mikael Silvestre.
The Manchester United defender, 31, was undergoing a medical at neighbours City when he got a call telling him Arsenal were interested.
Silvestre immediately abandoned the medical and hurtled down the M1 to meet Gunners boss Wenger and discuss terms. (The S*n)
Silvestre would obviously be excellent cover at Arsenal, and by taking him to the Emirates could provide Arsene with an early psychological advantage over the Lord of the Ferg.

Not bad business from wenger. 750,000 is the figure i’ve heard floating around. Not bad money for decent cover for any position across the back. Plenty of experience

I think his presence will boost the morale of our young sqaurd . He can cover with Gallas behind while Kolo takes the role tha Flammni left.

The signing of a DM is also imminent. Wenger has been negotiating that price for a while now and I believe that player is not who everyone thinks it is. Silvestre is just an oppourtunity signing. He’s better signed than not having any defensive cover at all. Adding to squad depth can only increase your chances. So, I welcome this signing whether he was a ManU reject or not. Football has changed. I expect the departure of Adebayor next summer. Truth be told
