Ex-Liverpool and Villa star Patrick Berger knows exactly why Gareth Barry would prefer to leap into the arms of Rafa B and elope to Anfield rather than stay at Villa Park.
The Telegraph reports that Patrick Berger, who was earlier given a hefty fine and a slap across the wrist for voicing his opinions on Barry whilst at Villa, can sympathize with Barry’s desire to leg it up to Merseyside:
“He’s a top player, he had a fantastic season last year and he just wants to make the big step in his career. Liverpool are offering him the chance and I can only understand why he wants to do it. He’s in a team which is trying to reach the Champions League and he could go to a team which actually won the Champions League a few years ago and they are in the Champions League every year.
“I’m sure he’s such a good professional that if the move isn’t going to happen he’ll give 100 per cent to Aston Villa.” (Daily Telegraph)
This move looked all but dead a few days ago, but Rafa is a notoriously stubborn character and given his history (leaving Valencia after several clashes with the board), the Liverpool suits should think carefully before they slam the door shut on bringing Barry in.
