Sunderland land former Liverpool striker - shame he didn’t arrive last week!
by stresster on August 21st, 2008Goodness me, aren’t Sunderland being busy bees in the transfer market this summer? While the likes of Everton and Newcastle struggle to rub two pennies together, the Black Cats laugh in the face of the credit crunch by showing off a suitcase bulging with notes and thrusting it into the face of all and sundry.
Setanta report that their latest acquisition is possibly the most exciting of the summer, especially if Djibril Cisse can rediscover the form that made Liverpool fork out £14 million for the striker four seasons ago. Since then, the Frenchman has been plagued by injury, although he is chuffed to be at the Stadium of Light on loan in a bid to revive his career.
“(Playing for Marseille) will remain a great memory for me and I’m only going on loan,” Cisse said. “Nothing’s forever, there’s still an open door. That’s what is good in a loan.
“I’m out there to take a breath of fresh air and we will see later.
“Sunderland is a new challenge. A team that people think small, looking to grow up and that invest a lot in signings to achieve a good season.
“But something’s for sure - there is a potential.”
Sunderland fans, are you excited by the prospect of Cisse and Diouf playing together up front? It’s certainly fast becoming a new-look Black Cats side compared to last season, it’s just a shame that their latest signing wasn’t nabbed last week so he could have lined up against former team Liverpool!

Good morning all.
It will be interesting to see how Cisse plays for Sunderland. I hope he does well. Only time will tell.

To be honest im getting sick of people taking the p*ss about the players we are signing, Liverpool and Tottenham rejects etc…
Look where we finished last season, and look how poor our players are compaired to Liverpool and Tottenham, why not buy their leftovers and benchwarmers and get them to come and play for us? at the end of the day they are better than what we have, so what’s the problem? is it against the law to sign players what strengthen your team?
Overall I’m glad with our signings this season.
Cisse (HOPEFULLY) will be a very decent signing for us!

keane a useless manager and will never make it
you have spent 90million+ in two seasons
Surely that is not management anyone can spend that and avoid the drop
Best of luck .
You will need it

i think he could do well for Sunderland. Labelled a flop at LFC he still managed to score 18 goals in his final season. watch this space, he will do well.

Well, I’m a Liverpool fan and I have to say I was quite impressed with the effort shown by Sunderland last week. I feel they can cause teams a fair few problems this season, and the 3 points we picked up on Saturday may well be seen as being crucial come the end of the season.
As for Cisse, I hope he does really well for you (except against Liverpool !) - certainly hope he does better that Diouf.
One last point - safc4eva ….. you may have made decent points in your post, but I couldn’t be @rsed to try to decipher it …. try English ;o)

to be honest, cisse started off well for livpl, then suffered a horrific injury and by the time he recovered, the person who bought him to the club had left and was replaced by benitiez who must ve asked him to prove his worth……any striker short of confidence and not trusted by his manager can be dreadful (ask sheva)…all d best to him n to be fair to him, he has never spoken ill of livpl, even when we played OM last year in the CL.

Well said, I’d just like to point out that not ALL of us Sunderland fans are illiterate.
Oh and Bobbythedon… Money isn’t everything, their must have been in element of skill involved in where Keane has brought us. I’d like to see you take over at a club and bring decent enough players in the get them to the Premiership and keep them there.
zekk67 - August 22nd, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Impressive, you got two of our previous strikers who played so bad in that position that our manager(s) played them at right wing before selling them off. Cisse’s delayed arrival would be a blessing for u black cats as diouf played well in his position and playing two strikers against liverpool would be a great mistake, the loss would be far worse and far more demoralising. Anti-football tactics against Liverpool, as what we saw from Liege and Sunderland, worked wonders, and I would expect other teams, even Scum United to do the same.
