According to this source, Arsene Wenger is still very much interested in this Liverpool midfielder, but the move may hinge on the valuation placed on his shoulders.

Arsenal remain keen on Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.
The Times says Reds boss Rafa Benitez is eager to find a buyer for Xabi, but will have to drop his £16 million asking price if he wants to do business with Arsenal. (tribalfootball.com)
I think the signing of Silvestre by the Gunners boss could well be an inspired move, and could prove to be the bargain of the summer. If Wenger could also secure a player of the quality of Xabi as well, then that too would be an incredible coup.
Alonso is a fantastic player and quite why Rafa doesn’t see him as the type of player who should be one of the first on his team sheet is beyond me. Personally I think that £16m is actually a fair price, but if they can persuade Benitez to drop the valuation, then all the better. Do Gunners fans think that Alonso would be the perfect signing for the Emirates side or is there no need for the club to spend any more cash this summer?
