‘Chelsea is where I can become best player in the world’ claims forward
by tomerf on August 22nd, 2008They’re certainly one of Europe’s biggest clubs these days, although managing to shoehorn all of Chelsea’s attacking talents into one side is going to take some doing if this signing does indeed go through. It’s certainly moved from ‘possible’ to ‘probable’ in the past 48 hours, with Peter Kenyon travelling to Spain and negotiating a deal to bring a Brazilian with a lot of flair to England.
The BBC report that Robinho is uber-keen to seal the deal with Chelsea, claiming that he cannot fulfil his potential at Real Madrid, a strong statement that his current paymasters won’t be too chuffed about. Apparently, the bright lights of the Premier League are beckoning the player and he wants to demonstrate how amazing he is at football.
Robinho added: “I’m telling the truth. I want to leave and I have got the character to tell the press that I’m not aiming to stay at Real.
“It isn’t because of money, it is simply because I want to leave. My personal aim is to be the best player in the world and that isn’t going to be possible at Real Madrid.
“I’ve played three seasons at Real Madrid and have given everything.
“I think my period at Real Madrid has come to an end. I hope the directors reach an agreement with Chelsea to resolve my situation as quickly as possible.”
Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon said last week that the Blues could still sign Robinho - despite the Spanish club insisting he was going nowhere.
“We’ve still got a few days left of the window,” stated Kenyon. “Hopefully we’ll get a result.”
Sounds like Chelsea are pretty bullish about their chances of finally landing one of their top summer targets. Will this acquisition make them increasingly strong favourites to win the Premier League this season, or might it be a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth?
