Manchester City are suddenly rich again! They’re looking for ‘box-office signing’ with ex-Arsenal striker heading list
by stresster on August 22nd, 2008The soap opera that is Manchester City Football Club continues to provide plenty of entertainment for us all. What do you expect when the owner used to be Prime Minister of Thailand, recruits and sacks the former manager of England, hires the former manager of Wales and then has his assets frozen after failing to attend a court hearing. Oh, and fails to sign the former World Player of the Year.
The Guardian provide the news that the club have some cash again and they are not afraid of spending it. Oh no, Shinawatra seems to be attracting some investment and is confident (in only the way a megalomaniac can be) of getting his assets thawed by the Thai authorities. Now they want to make a signing that will make people sit up and take notice of this proud football club who are not a laughing stock, honestly.
Manchester City have drawn up a shortlist of some of the biggest stars in world football, headed by Thierry Henry, as they look for a “box-office signing” to fill the role they had hoped to create for Ronaldinho.
The club are determined to investigate whether Henry would be tempted to leave Barcelona in the January transfer window if he has a difficult first half of the season in La Liga. At the same time, feelers are being put out across the world to bring in the “superstar” that City’s executive chairman, Garry Cook, believes will take the club to another level.
Cook has not been put off by City’s long and ultimately unsuccessful pursuit of Ronaldinho, when the Brazil international led them to believe he was keen on moving to Eastlands before signing for Milan.
Somebody might want to mention to Cook that it’s no point having a superstar in your team if the other players aren’t up to much. Just ask Juninho about that one, or even City legend Kinkladze. Once again, the club appear to be going completely the wrong way about doing things, are you excited about the above City fans, or just depressed?
We're giving you £10 FREE so show some bollocks and BET NOW!

“it’s [sic] no point having a superstar in your team if the other players aren’t up to much”. Do you think he’d be that all that out of place amongst City’s other players? Three City players played for the England U-21 team the other night, add Joe Hart in the England squad proper. The squad has two Brazilian international players, one of whom this morning bagged an impressive brace to seal a bronze medal for his Olympics team. Other City players represent Ireland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Switzerland, Israel, and now Belgium, on a regular basis- and that list is not exhaustive. Cut the crap. City have a very respectable squad, and I’m sure that a reasonable proportion of your readership will be inclined to agree.
Now… having said that, I don’t think we require Henry’s services, and I suspect that Wenger let him leave because his time at the top was over. I think we’re better off without Ronaldinho, and think we’ll be better off without Thierry Henry too. CTID.

I`ll bet my `left one` that TH14 will not play for any other EPL team apart from Arsenal. There`s more chance of Kaka turning up at City.
What I can`t understand is why these so-called rich people are buying up EPL teams and then not throwing gazillions of bucks to buy the best players around and falling flat on their ugly faces. The only way to win the EPL or CL or even get into the top 4 is to spend, spend, spend. Buy Ade from the arse, buy Torres from the scousers, buy Divaldo from the scum and Ballack from the mincers. grab Kaka, steal Robinho then buy the best `D` you can and you might get a result. Now you`ve spent around 500,000,000 and you`ve made yourself and the clubs fan-base really happy and you`re going to get a result. Money well spent,eh?

We don’t want to sign too many over the age of 30 like the bad old days. If we get one as a talisman then perhaps that would be ok. Ultimately though if they are not up to it then steer clear.
We have the best Academy in the country and this year the likes of Richards, Johnson, Ireland, Sturridge et al will get even better.
I think we only need 2/3 players to have an excellent squad. When everyone is fit our first 11 is very impressive particularly after the purchases of Jo and Kompany. Just a shame we seem to have loads of players on the treatment table.

Henry won’t be coming to City, we know that but the club is showing ambition. The squad we have is smaller than last season but mark my words, there is more quality than last year. Losing at Villa away is no disgrace. Plenty of teams will come unstuck there this season, they’re a good team. City did not play badly, we suffered for not having a defensive midfielder protecting the back 4 when 3 of our attacks broke down. Once we have a few home games under our belt we will climb the table as we now have a fit Richards and Johnson and players coming back from injury over the next few weeks.

Henry is just a smoke screen to throw the likes of Spuds of the scent as they usually try to nip in and get our targets first. We will unveil our player when a done deal is certain.

I just get tired of all this ‘the soap opera that is Manchester City’ nonsense. What must it be like to support some other team? What must it be like to not come from Manchester? I fell so lucky, so privileged, to be a City fan, and feel so genuinely sorry for all you other supporters who will never know what it is like. So sneer, make jibes, and continue churning out the tired old cliches. One thing I know, is that you will never know what it’s like to support City….till I die.

Mark Hughes is a superb manager and he will bring success to Manchester City, no doubt about that. With the likes of Kompany and Jo and hopefully Neves and a few more quality signings, I hope Manchester City finish in the top 6.
I am a Manchester United fan, but I think Mark Hughes is a legend and always will be no matter where he is and he will turn Manchester City around and make Eastlands a place where every team wants to avoid, just like at Ewood Park.
I am following Manchester City’s success and I hope the team will do exceptionally well.
Ciao
