Cork City seem to be producing a conveyor belt of striking talent exclusively for Reading FC, with reports coming through that the Royals have snared yet another forward from the Irish cup champions. Steve Coppell is clearly keen to increase his attacking options after losing Dave Kitson to Stoke City during the summer and he’s brought in a player that may just give them an extra dimension this term.

Setanta reports that Dave Mooney has arrived at the Madejski Stadium, following in the footsteps of Kevin Doyle and Shane Long, both of whom have also made the same move in recent seasons.

Mooney, the top scorer in the eircom League in 2008, has penned a three-year deal with the Championship side.

City confirmed that the fee from the sale of the Ireland U-21 international will be used to pay off creditors while the club goes through examinership.

A club statement read: “The transfer fee will provide the initial sums that will assist Mr. Kieran McCarthy, the interim examiner appointed by the High Court yesterday, to prepare proposals for the creditors of the company.”

It very much seems that Cork’s back was against the wall on this one, with the club needing to make this sale in order to continue functioning. Nevertheless, Reading fans will be keen to see how well their new acquisition adapts to life in the Championship.
