The Bangles enjoyed hits such as ‘Manic Monday’ and ‘Eternal Flame’, although the Wigan fans could be instead ‘Walking Like an Egyptian’ if the latest rumours are to be believed. Steve Bruce has already landed Amr Zaki this summer and the striker wasted no time opening his Latics account by scoring the consolation goal at West Ham last Saturday. Now it appears he’ll be joined by his compatriot to form a unique strikeforce.

Sky Sports reports that Mido, a forward renowned for struggling to keep his weight down, claims that Steve Bruce is an ardent admirer of the way he can devour an all-you-can-eat buffet African striker, despite the ex-Tottenham forward not really having much to show for the last couple of seasons (apart from an impressive belly). Will the Wigan boss look to unite the Egyptian with Zaki?

“I was informed that Wigan want to sign me on loan, but they are yet to contact Middlesbrough,” Mido told FilGoal.

“Wigan coach Steve Bruce admires my abilities. He has tried to sign me when he was in charge of Birmingham, and now he has renewed his interest.”

“I will take my final decision next week after meeting (Middlesbrough coach) Gareth Southgate,” he continued.

“I may opt to stay at Middlesbrough for the sake of stability. I settled in there after spending a whole season with them.

“Anyway, I won’t close the door on a move to Wigan. I may end up joining them if they offered me more first-team football.”

I’m sure I can’t be the only one who wants to see Mido and Zaki form a potentially lethal Egyptian strikeforce for Wigan? It’s hard to see him getting many games for Boro, especially with Alves and Tuncay looking sharp, yet he’ll have to use every ounce of his not insubstantial frame to muscle Emile Heskey out of the Latics starting XI.
