You might have been forgiven for thinking that the Toffees finished 17th in the Premier League last season, rather than in 5th place which meant a place in the UEFA Cup this season. After all, it seems that Hull City are doing a better job of attracting players than Everton right now, who have seemingly failed in their bid to land Joao Moutinho and now face further disappointment with another midfielder not wanting a move to Merseyside.

The S*n reports that Tiago, formerly of Chelsea, was presented with the opportunity of a season-long loan at Goodison Park. Like the bride and groom at the altar, all he had to say was “I do” and he would be adorning the blue of the Toffees. Instead, he’s said “No thanks, if it’s all the same to you”.

Sporting director Alessio Secco said: “We had reached an agreement with Everton for the loan of Tiago.

“All that was needed was the player’s agreement and that never came. We take it, therefore, that Tiago will stay with us.”

Once again, we can expect to see a bunch of youngsters turning out for Everton on Saturday as they face a precarious-looking visit to West Brom. Do you fancy them to get something from the game with such a threadbare squad or do they still have plenty of quality within the ranks?
