Wenger is a big fan of this young starlet, who just helped his country to the Olympic gold and therefore his club has decided to slap on one hell of a pricetag!

Benfica have reportedly put a £24million price tag on Argentina youngster Angel di Maria to ward off Arsenal.
The 20-year-old jumped into the limelight following his classy match-winner against Nigeria in the Olympics football final in Beijing.
Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United are thought to be amongst a host of top European clubs interested in the winger.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus were all said to be tracking the star before the Olympics got underway.
However, Portugal giants Benfica are desperate to hang onto di Maria for at least another season and will not accept any offer less than the player’s near-£24million buy-out clause. (Thesoccerblog)
The Argentine winger, often dubbed the ‘New Messi’, looks to be a player of huge potential and is being chased by just about every big club in Europe. The Portuguese giants are going to struggle to keep him focused on the coming league campaign, not least because Benfica only managed fourth last term and cannot offer the 20-year-old Champions League football. Whether the Arsenal boss would be tempted by the player given that valuation will be interesting to monitor, maybe he could test the water with a smaller bid? Do Gunners fans think the club need yet more young talents in the squad or should they be looking to their immediate future rather than further down the road?

This is nonsense. Why would Wenger consider him now at silly prices, when he could have had him last year for 2-3 millions. Remember di Maria and Diaz went to Benfica in a 4 millions pound double deal last year.

Like Arsenal would pay 24 million for a winger when they wont spend half that for a desperately need defensive midfielder. If they have that much money available they should be moving heaven and earth to bring in a bestial psychopath who regards losing posession as an insult to his ancestors and manhood and has the kinetic energy of a mack truck.

I gather that some of you who post are extremely poor at reading and writing judging by some of the ridiculous comments, claiming Mr Comfort ‘creates’ these articles…………..No he doesn’t, they are taken from other sources that might not be available to everyone and given a wider audience on his web page advertised on newsnow.com. I can understand some of you really struggling to understand such a notion as it is highly complex and truly a difficult thing to master! if you don’t agree with the rumour or what has been posted, first try and read it properly and see that it hasn’t been ‘created’ by the author merely copied and pasted for your viewing. So why not shut the f*ck up moaning about it when you haven’t even read it properly………..!

Have to agree with LondonGooner, some idiots just don’t get it. Every rumour is sourced, i would agree if this was made up, but its not, at least not by this site. At least here we can discuss the merits and flaws in some of these rumours. No one questions the BBC’s collection of rumours from other sources, what is the difference here? yes the headline is a bit more sensational, but that’s just obvious, its what you do to get people to look at a story, the headlines aren’t misleading i mean they are backed up in the main by the content. Also, if you don’t like it, don’t come here? I mean you wouldn’t go to a shop and buy an off pint of milk and then say i am never coming here again! and then return the next day to buy another pint of milk! Keep up the good work Mr Comfort i think your detractors are far outweighed by those who like to come here!

As for the article, Wenger turned down signing him last season for considerably less, we are led to believe so I very much doubt he wold be back in for the player 12-18 months later for 8 times the price, just doesn’t make economic sense and for a guy with an economics degree, it’s just not going to happen!
