After the Gunners’ 1-0 defeat at Fulham on Saturday, it’s clear that the midfield department is the area most in need of improvement. Defensively, they appeared to be reasonably sound, although there were no excuses for the way in which the goal was conceded. Going forward, you got the impression that Van Persie and Adebayor would have been fine if they had received some decent service. However, a central midfield consisting of Eboue and Denilson is only going to get you so far.
Nevertheless, Setanta reports that it’s a striker that is claiming interest from the North London club and an Ivorian at that! Few people will have heard of Gervinho, yet the Le Mans forward claims that he could be on his way to Arsenal in the next few days.
The 21-year-old is hopeful he will be able to join The Premier League title contenders before September 1st.
“Arsenal have opened the door to me,” Gervinho told football365.fr, on his return from the Beijing Olympics. “This club is my dream.
“Playing for Arsenal would be the biggest achievement in my life.
“I will do anything to play for this club.
“There are lots of young footballers, but amongst the best European clubs, only one work like they do. I love it.”
It’s great to hear of someone so keen to join the Gunners, although I’m sure we’ve heard similar soundbites before, only for player to become a rip-roaring success and demand a quadruple pay increase two years down the line! It would be no surprise to see the Ivorian arrive at Arsenal and develop into a top-class player like so many before him.
