ANDREI ARSHAVIN’S switch to Tottenham could be back on after his club coughed up £24million for Portugal star Danny.
Zenit St Peterburg’s decision to buy the midfielder from Russian rivals Dinamo Moscow has increased hope that Arshavin’s on-off move to Spurs could be resurrected.
Juande Ramos’ side have been weighing up a move for the forward, who starred for Russia at Euro 2008.
Zenit’s £25m valuation had put the North Londoners off but the acquisition of Danny could see the Russian champions lower their asking price.
They refused to say if the 27-year-old would remain at the club despite Danny being a ready-made replacement for the wantaway star.
When asked if Arshavin was on his way, boss Dick Advocaat said: “No, because Andrei is still with Zenit and I am still not sure if he is going away. (The Sun)

Zenit manager Dick Advocaat has been pretty honest about the situation in most interviews and seems to be of the opinion that, sooner or later, Andrei will leave the club and that Tottenham are the most likely to sign him. Now with their latest signing arriving at the St Petersburg side, the rumour mills have gone spinning crazily, seeing this as a concrete signal that Juande is about to get his man.

If they do indeed seal the deal for this top-class attacker, then it could well help the club immensely after a bad start. Perhaps the best thing about this move would be the knock-on effect it would have on the club, i.e. helping signal the end of the Berbatov saga so that the club could try to move forward without having to deal with the sulk at the club any longer! Are Spurs fans hopeful this deal can indeed be completed in time before the window slams shut, or is this simply not going to happen and has this source just got the wrong end of the stick?
