Word coming from Spain is that he had no ambition to play for the club after hearing that Liverpool were also in the mix!
Everton’s torturous summer took another turn for the worse last night when Liverpool moved closer to signing Albert Riera, the Spain winger, from Espanyol.
Although Everton have had a £9.5 million bid for Riera accepted by Espanyol, the one-time Manchester City player has made clear his desire to move to Anfield, with Liverpool hopeful of agreeing a deal in the coming days provided that they match the offer made by their Merseyside rivals. Well this should make for a highly entertaining derby this year! With Riera spurning Everton for their rival club, there’s a good chance that he’ll get a warm welcome when the two teams clash later this year.
