Newcastle winger hands in transfer request - will Villa swoop for £9 million England wannabe?
by stresster on August 27th, 2008There was Kevin Keegan, telling the press how great a performance he thought this player had delivered on Tuesday night, when the person in question was getting ready to tell his manager and the board that he no longer wanted to be plying his trade at Newcastle!
The Daily Telegraph report that just when it seemed James Milner was sticking around at St James’ Park despite attention from Aston Villa and Liverpool, it now seems as though the winger could be moving on after handing in a transfer request. Will the Tyneside club allow him to leave or step in his way?
“Newcastle United can confirm that it has received a written transfer request from James Milner,” a club statement confirmed.
“The club is very disappointed that James sees his footballing future as being away from St. James’ Park.
“He is a valued member of the squad and it is only a year ago that he signed an improved long-term contract.”
So that’s why Kevin Keegan was singing Milner’s praises after his man of the match performance at Coventry! It was a cunning ruse to keep hold of his player - or at least by bumping up his price by mentioning that the former Leeds man should get a chance for England. Newcastle fans - are you disappointed by the news that one of your best players wants to leave the club? Villa are the first in line for his services by all accounts.

He handed the request in on the 20th. At least he has the balls to put a request in, compared to Gareth Barry for example.

He’s right like, he handed it in last week.. The PFA who represent Milner just came out with it today because Newcastle took the stance of making it public. Only want players who want to play for the shirt anyway. Good luck to Milner, he’s been a bit messed about by us after the whole Villa loan / transfer last minute scenario.. And Taylor’s gettin a shitload more for being a local lad.. Although i would rather see the latter stay. Dont think Milnet is the best crosser of the ball, but still think he’s a mint player that isnt as bad as the nay sayers reckon..

Sam, Have you seen Sky Sports? It’s always getting things wrong. Milner just wants to play for a big club in europe. Think what it’d mean for his England chances with a class manager. I think of the name Keegan and titter uncontrollably, so what is poor James thinking(The same I bet). “I’d love it if we beat them” then loses a comanding lead on the premiership to Manure. God taking him back was a backwards move.

This is great… a player wanting to leave Newcastle for VIlla!!!! I can hardly blame him!!!! Villa are clearly the best team with the best squad outside of the big 4.

If you think Villa is bigger then Newcastle then your a numpty.
James Milner is only after one thing. More money. Hes on half of what Stevey Taylor is on and is the same age and is just as good (even if his Corners are poor atm). Mike Ashley wont up his pay as there is a huge wage crisis at the mo so hes being forced into moving on. I doubt very much he wants to leave deep down and it will suprise me if he goes. I think this is just an ultimatum to the board of Newcastle for “More Money Please”!…
Hugs and kisses to all the Villia top 4 wannabes.

Disappointing, this is probably the worse season ever for newcastle in the transfer market. Even worse when daglish took over as manager and sold all our best players. With the current squad, we got to dig deep. Getting all emotional here..
Howay the toons!

What’s up with you guy’s. I said Milner wanted to play for a big club in europe, not that my club is bigger than yours(even if I think it I won’t say it as other fans deserve the respect of supporting their club and thinking themselves to be a big club). Yes I am a Villa fan, but I do sympathise with you NUFC fans as my club has just come out of the dark days your club now suffers. I just don’t feel the backwards step that your club have taken in re-employing an ex manager is the right one as we did it with Taylor and what a failure that was. I know O’Neill was on your radars a while back, but surely there is a manager of a better calibre than Keegan as he makes you all look like fools when maybe your not. It’s a sorry state of affairs when a club of NUFC size cannot keep a player as good as Milner, however we can make good use of him. Good Luck Guy’s I fear you will need it…..
