Dimitar Berbatov’s switch to Manchester United looked to be moving a step closer last night after Roman Pavlyuchenko claimed he had finally agreed a deal to join Tottenham.
Spartak Moscow had earlier said the Russia striker, 26, had opted against a move because of family reasons, but last night he confirmed he had not travelled with the Spartak squad for the second leg of their Champions League qualifier with Dynamo Kiev as he was finalising the details of his move to Spurs. UNITED were today awaiting the outcome of a Dimitar Berbatov crisis meeting at Tottenham.

The Reds’ transfer target, his agent Emil Dantchev and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy are understood to have met face-to-face to thrash out the situation at White Hart Lane on Tuesday night.

And with Tottenham said to be close to completing the signing of Russia striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, Berbatov’s move north looked even closer. (Manchester Evening News)

Spurs fans must be happy to have landed the Spartak Moscow striker and they will surely be doubly pleased if it means they can remove the disruptive influence of the one-time fans’ favourite as a result of signing Pavlyuchenko. There is no doubt at all that Berbatov is a class act but his stance on his protracted move to Man United has been nothing short of disgraceful. Whilst it would give a strong sign to Sir Alex to turn down the cash and let him rot in the reserves, it would make more sense to cash in and then at least the team could get on with trying to recover from their poor start. Do Spurs fans think that Levy and Ramos should sell up quickly or hang on to Berbs?
