So much for Manchester City’s perceived financial troubles! The club are now firmly in the hunt for players as the transfer window starts to creak shut, and they could be about to land one of Espanyol’s star players for a snip of a price.
Sky Sports report that Pablo Zabaleta could join Shaun Wright-Phillips at Eastlands to help form a new-look midfield. The 26-year-old is thought to be keen on a move to the Premier League (who isn’t these days?) and talks have apparently already started.
Sources in Spain suggest that City have already entered into talks with their Primera Liga counterparts regarding the midfielder.
The fee involved is rumoured to be around 8million euros (£6.4m), with the Argentine thought to have a clause in his contract which is activated once that figure is offered.
Should Espanyol be forced into a sale, the Catalan club will also have to hand 50 per cent of the fee over to Zabaleta’s advisor Marcelo Arguello.
So there’s at least one person who wants the deal to go through! Always nice when a player’s agent is batting for you in a transfer negotiation, and good news for City fans that they’re hunting down new transfer targets with just hours of the transfer window remaining.
