Arsenal close to landing £12 million Dutch midfielder: Could he be the new Vieira?

It’s clear that the midfield area is where the Gunners are struggling at the moment, despite the acquisition of the talented Mr Nasri. While the Frenchman looks like the real deal already, the temporary absence of Cesc Fabregas illustrated how ordinary Arsenal can look in the middle of the park, especially with Eboue and Denilson stationed there. Never fear though, because help is seemingly at hand.

The Sun, bastion of all that is good about football journalism, have revealed that Arsene Wenger is closing to landing Jonathan de Guzman for £12 million. The Feyenoord midfielder is clearly interested in playing in the red and white of the north London club, and seems to tick the right boxes in so far as he’s young and a tough-tackling player who can add steel to the Gunners midfield.

He recently claimed: “My dream clubs are Arsenal and Barcelona. If clubs of that stature are interested in you then you cannot say no.

“I’m certainly open to interest from Arsenal and from what I hear Feyenoord are happy to hear from them as well.”

Arsenal fans, do you think it’s important that the club make this signing, or somebody of similar quality to ensure that your team can compete for silverware this season? Or has last night’s victory against FC Twente convinced you that the Fulham match was a blip and that you would beat them nine times out of ten?
