According to this source, it appears that Wenger is about to land a Dutch/Canadian youngster.

Arsenal are poised to land Feyenoord’s Jonathan De Guzman for £12million.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has made his move for the tough-tackling midfielder, 20, who is known as the Dutch version of Owen Hargreaves.
And he snubbed the chance to play for Canada in order to make his debut for Holland’s Under-21 team in March.
He recently claimed: “My dream clubs are Arsenal and Barcelona. If clubs of that stature are interested in you then you cannot say no.
“I’m certainly open to interest from Arsenal and from what I hear Feyenoord are happy to hear from them as well.” (The Sun)
After losing Flamini and Silva, many have considered the north London outfit to be short of defensive central midfielders, and Guzman could ably fill this role. It appears that this target is another that David Moyes may well miss out on, as the Gunners seem to be winning this transfer battle. Would Arsenal fans rather have seen the likes of Barry or Alonso signing for the Emirates outfit?

What makes everyone think that Liverpool would even allow us to sign Alonso? That potential deal would depend greatly on Gareth Barry leaving Villa which is looking increasingly unlikely before the end of this transfer window. Alonso has been playing for Liverpool this season and is now cup-tied. I’d be very interested to know if any fans questioning a potential De Guzman deal have even seen him play!! Maybe these fans could suggest some players that haven’t been touted by the media as Arsenal targets rather than jumping on the Alonso/Veloso etc etc. bandwagon.

Unfortunately there won’t be a signing. I was banking on Inler until his agent squashed the rumor. I hope Diaby can get and stay fit, but I think we all know that won’t happen.

agreed the sun is not a good source. they spoke about this kid about 3-4 months ago. Blaise Matuidi is the newest name but i think whatever wenger decides to do will be best. we have already replaced helb with nasri, and flam’s position will be filled this season. fulham was just a hiccup

I totally agree with you ‘dream on spuds ‘ because what you said is true. Believe or not, Arsene may sign another one or two france to arsenal and he soon can make a france squad wearing arsenal jersey. In my opinion, we should improve on every position from GK to striker. One good shot-stopper, for GK position. Two good defender, one more midfielder like lorik cana and another prolific striker like santa cruz.

When you know more than Wenger about anything, especially football then come and talk.
And to ‘dream on spurs’, chavski don’t buy one player, they buy alot more than that each year with their huge budget. Wenger is keeping the club on solid economic foundations and building a very strong squad.
In relation to the article, havn’t seen much of this guy but I think Alonso or Veloso would be better, I can’t see any other possible moves besides that.

wht would he do that when the club has come out and said that if wenger ever wanted to buy a player and he cost 30 million he could do so no questioned asked. then why hasn’t he. yes he is a great manager but if he is serious about winnin anything this year he needs just that one strong experienced player to guide his group of youngsters.
he can dream on about alonso cause he isnt going anywhere neither is barry. de guzman is a good player but at the age of 20 will lack experience as will other rumoured signin blaise matuidi. who knows who he will sign but for arsenal sake i hope it aint someone under the age of 24.

i ve not realy seen this guzman guy,but i think wenger should do something abt his holding position.he cannot rely on denilson and diaby.denilson not strong enough to mine that role, diaby injury prone, so he realy need a player like bary or alonso.wenger also need to regain the trust of gunners fans worldwide or he will be seen as a disapointment God forbid. GUNNERS 4 LIFE.

In my honest opinion wenger unravelled a gem in flamini! he was pretty much a spare part and i personally thought he was a bit of a french bitch! but he turned out 2 be the next gattuso or makalele! y the hell did he let him go!? absolute madness!
