Arsenal defender wants fans to support greedy striker and temperamental captain
by stresster on August 29th, 2008Have Arsenal got back on track after their 4-0 thumping of FC Twente? The proof of the pudding will be on Saturday evening, when Newcastle ride into town, having picked up four points from their opening two matches. There are one or two players that need to show the supporters that they are fully committed to the club, although Gael Clichy has called for fans to get behind a duo who have come in for criticism recently.
Sky Sports report that the French left-back has heard the murmurs of discontent regarding William Gallas’ re-appointment as captain, while he’s all-too aware of Emmanuel Adebayor’s lack of loyalty this summer. However, the youngster with a wise head on his shoulders has called for unwavering support from the Emirates crowd - are you willing to forgive the Togolese striker for being so greedy?
“I think he showed he is a great player. William is the captain so you have to look for someone to blame,” he said in the Daily Star.
“Unfortunately it is him but I don’t think the players think that is right.
“We don’t blame him for everything. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone is behind him and it will remain like this.”
Clichy concedes the uncertainty surrounding Adebayor’s future was not ideal preparation for the new season, but is convinced the powerful forward will again win over the Gunners faithful.
He added: “I think the big thing is to feel that you are wanted by your club, your manager, your team-mates and the fans.
“It was a big disappointment for the fans to see what happened during the summer.
“Ade is a big, big player and last year he showed he has the quality to be one of the best in Europe.”
It’s fair to say that the latter has got some making up to do, while Gallas would do well to avoid the histrionics and outspoken comments that plagued the campaign last term. Will this all be forgotten if Arsenal start banging in the goals and blaze another trail at the top of the Premier League?

Kenny Jo, typical bitter Spurs fan, full of hatred. Arsenal migrated north of the river and and have taken the accolade as North London’s biggest club. That’s just part of life, get over it Spud!
And what the heck are Spuds gonna win my friend, Champions League?! No, I didn’t think so. Second rate football club with too much money. Gooners will never be satisfied with the Carling Cup… Never!
