£28m Spurs move just got more interesting!

CITY have made a dramatic 11th hour bid for United’s number one target Dimitar Berbatov.
The Reds have been locked in transfer talks over the signing of Tottenham’s Bulgarian star all summer but City, who are on the brink of being taken over by an Abu Dhabi investment group, are attempting a cheeky deadline-day swoop.
The cash-rich Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment have reached an agreement to buy City, and their first instruction to the Blues is to try to lure Berbatov for a reputed £28m.
The Blues may try to use Martin Petrov to persuade his international team-mate to come to the club.
The audacious move is bound to rile United, even if Berbatov goes to Old Trafford as expected. (Manchester Evening News)
No doubt Spurs fans will just hope that either team forks out the cash so they can rid the club of this disruptive influence. However, a move to Eastlands would only occur if Manchester United pulled out of the race – and would the Bulgarian join a team who would not realistically offer him Champions League football for a couple of years at least? If Daniel Levy was feeling particularly nasty he could of course decide to take a smaller offer from City in order to prove a point and punish Sir Alex for his blatant tapping up! Do Spurs fans think Berba’s move is a done deal?

I do not believe a single letter in those rumours….
But the Transfer Deadline day is nearly killing me though .-)

While there would be a certain satisfaction in seeing Sir Alex gazumped at the final hurdle would it be good for us to see Berbatoff ending up at a club that, as things stand, are a more direct rival to Spurs?

if he goes to City, it’ll prove he was just after the big money. if he rejects them and states thats the reason and stays with Spurs, i’d be happy with that and give him another chance.

IF Berbasulk signs for Man City, it would just prove that he is a money grabbing WAN**R.
No one that has a “DREAM” of signing for Arse, would sign for Spurs, especially with no CL football,
Surely it’s the same with the Manc clubs ????.
At this moment in time, man for man, Man City are no better than Spurs, so if he does go to the blue half of Manchester, would it really be a forward step ???.
Although with the way he has behaved with his total lack of respect for Spurs and our loyal and often deluded fans, he really has no choice other than to get out and throw a sickie when his new club comes to WHL.
Bit worried about finding another replacement for him though, I know we have PAV now, but by the sounds of it, we have to wait for Sulk to go, BEFORE we can get some one else in…..

god dam it, SAF, land berba quickly, dnt forget the ronaldhilo deco, robben saga. JUst because of some 4-5 million u could not land these stars

No way is he going to Citeh…. The guy want’s Champs league footie and he won’t get that this season. It would be mildly amusing if he did go, but I think a straight swap with Ajax for Huntelaar would be the best option… get him out of the country so we don’t have to look at his miserable face.

manchester united will not be able to retain their double championship if they fail to land the bulgarian international because of the poor quality of frontman available both in quality and quantity. Signing berbatov could means more publicity, more fame, guarantee another final in CL, of couse winning the final; as we are used to, then guarantee another 35M pound, and could also mean to equalise liverpool record

We’ve ACCEPTED a bid from MANCHESTER CITY. I wonder if the SULK will accept terms????????????????.

More chance of platting fog than Berbatov signing for the bitter blues. Wishful thinking, sorry guys
Ryan - September 1st, 2008 at 1:52 pm
No way that he will accept it…If he would play for the City, why the hell he even asked for transfer. Spurs are much bigger name and with more chances for some serious Champions League battle.
JohnnyB - September 1st, 2008 at 1:55 pm
wouldn’t surprise me if Spurs accepted the offer…..Berbs won’t go there though!
Gavin - September 1st, 2008 at 2:37 pm
He has burnt his bridges at Spurs so unless Utd pay up, he will have no choice but to join City. He can never play for spurs again!!!
Red Mist - September 1st, 2008 at 2:57 pm
No actually you’re wrong he can state that he is not prepared to move to city (because, honestly, he won’t go to city, he wants to win things) and then spurs have the same choice they had before city’s bid. Neither Berbatov nor spurs want to maintain the status quo, so its spurs reserves or united with£23M+Campbell.

I will always LIKE Berby…..MAD as he has been in recent weeks. He did the ‘biz’ for us on many occasions but…Keano, his right hand man, is GONE and THFC are moving on….to a higher level….Sadly, Berbs is destined for other things…..Going to City will be a move down….and a stupid move for both THFC and Berbatov….
We need to offload him ‘abroad’….or atleast somewhere that he can do no damage to us. I FEAR that he, like all our ex players is destined to be a thorn in our paw in the not too distant future? I hope not…..but…well….The King is DEAD….LONG live the King (well until we get CL this year!) COYS!
