Liverpool without two best players for Manchester United match?

To be honest, the Reds haven’t been very good this season, although they’ve shown enough killer instinct to enjoy a solid start in the Premier League and ensure that they’re in the Champions League group stages. Their next challenge is trying to beat Man United at home, although you might not back them without this talented duo.

The Guardian reports that Fernando Torres could be out for anything up to a month, following the hamstring injury sustained during Liverpool’s goalless draw with Aston Villa on Sunday. The Spaniard will have a scan on Monday to ascertain the extent of the damage, although hamstrings generally take at least a fortnight to repair. With Stevie G also likely to be out for another two weeks, will Pool have to make do without their two jewels in the crown against the champions?

“Torres will have a scan tomorrow and only then will we know how bad it is. Only the scan can tell us,” said Benítez , whose side maintained their unbeaten start to the season but failed to capitalise on Chelsea’s home draw with Tottenham earlier in the afternoon to go top. “It is always a problem when you don’t have Gerrard or Torres but the only positive news for us is the international break, which can give us time to get them fit. I think we will loose Gerrard for one more game, maybe, and hopefully Torres will be the same. It will be at least seven to 10 days, but it is too early to say for sure.”

While this is clearly a blow to Liverpool and their supporters, the silver lining to this particular cloud are the international games at the weekend, meaning that both players have time to start making a recovery. Who knows, they might both be on the bench for the crunch clash a week on Saturday? Do Reds supporters think they can beat Sir Alex Ferguson’s men without their star men, especially as United will be missing Cristiano Ronaldo?
