Manchester United battle rivals for INCREDIBLE £3m signing!
by Mr Comfort on September 1st, 2008According to this source a certain former Liverpool legend isn’t too keen on signing a new Newcastle contract and is about to become the subject of a bidding war between Sir Alex and Tottenham boss Juande Ramos!

Manchester United and Tottenham are set for another battle over a striker. This time it is about Newcastle striker Michael Owen who has today been linked with an possible exit from St James’ Park and both Sir Alex Ferguson and Juande Ramos are keen to offer him that exit route. (Sunday Mirror)
The England international is apparently about to reject a new contract offer from Newcastle of £120,000 a week in favour of a move to Old Trafford or White Hart Lane. With Spurs and United both in the market for a new front man, it makes sense that Michael Owen’s name is mentioned.
This possible transfer all depends on one man - Dimitar Berbatov. If Berbatov joins United, I feel Owen will sign for Spurs, but if Berbatov stays at Spurs then I could see Owen making the move south to Manchester. (footballcorner)
Frankly I am not sure that Michael Owen would ever sign for United but this source seems to suggest that it could happen. More likely the England man may be fishing for an even more obscene wage packet. The one big factor to consider is that the 28-year-old would be available for as little as £3m as he is nearing the end of his St James’ Park contract. Having missed out on the upcoming England squad I am sure the former Anfield hero will be hoping to impress Capello in the coming weeks to prove to the Italian that he is still capable of doing the business. Would Man United fans be open to a bid for Owen or does the fact he was a legend at their arch-rivals prove too much to bear? And do Spurs fans think that the former Real man still has what it takes?

Not sure i could stomach it if he signed! We should get Berbatov so that should do the trick.

Although he was class I don’t think he’d be right for us - we need someone taller…. Rooney and Tevez are hardly giants, Owen wouldn’t offer enough in the air. Better to go for someone bigger and stronger - unless we could have him as an extra at a bargain price (and he’ll try hard as he will want to regain his England slot!)!!!!

would love to see mickey in a Utd shirt. Not only would he be as good as Henrik was - but it would quite deeply offend many scouser’s….

It will never happen. Owen would never sign for mancheats. Deep down inside he’s still want to go back to Anfield to finish off his career. And as for Berbie doll may he rot in hell at Spurs bench
