I think we did pretty well this summer and i think we are stronger than in May. Yes we lost our strike pairing but we got rid of a lot of deadwood and have brought in world class players like Modric, Giovani, Gomes, Pavlyuchenko and Bentley.
Weymouthyid - September 2nd, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Completely agree Darren, just wish we hadn’t sent Pekhart out on loan, should have kept him and introduced him in Carling Cup games provided we beat the barcodes
Ramses - September 2nd, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Completely agree too. It was a fine transfer window for us. Now Come On you Spurs !!
joe - September 2nd, 2008 at 2:37 pm
a little concerned about the strikeforce in jan we had keane berba defoe and bent all we have now is bent an untried russian and young player not good enough to play for united make up your own mind yes midfield and defence is stronger but who is going to score the goals time will tell but foreget championship league we will all be fighting for 6th position all other position will be taken by liverpool manu chelsea arsenal and man city not neccessarily in that order same as usual it seems medioce rubbish
S4E - September 2nd, 2008 at 2:37 pm
I RECKON SPURS BOUGHT SOME CLASS PLAYERS, AND THEY WILL STILL BUY MORE,RAMUS KNOWS WHAT TO BUY.AT LAST BERBA IS GONE,HE GAVE A BAD INFLUENCE TO THE REST OF THE TEAM ,AND 50MIL FROM HIM AND KEANE,THAT IS THE BEST PROFIT THEY MADE.
RAYSPURS - September 2nd, 2008 at 2:41 pm
IT IS TOO EARLY TO TELL, THE LAST GAME WE PLAYED AGAINST CHELSEA ,OUR DEFENCE REALLY PLAYED WELL .AND OUR MIDFIELD WAS SUPERB, NOW WITH THE RUSSIAN UP FRONT WE CAN ONLY BE BETTER.
Enorme Nuez - September 2nd, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Would’ve liked to see Tomas Pekhart given an opportunity in the League cup just as the WeymouthYid had stated. Thought we should’ve held onto Malbranque aswell, good squad player and one who can win a tackle.
If we get Modric the ball as we did in the second half against Chel$ki then we will do well. This will mean that Jenas will have to give way to Huddlestone or be played out of position as he was on Saturday. Modric started to find openings which caused Chel$ki problems.
Ole28 - September 2nd, 2008 at 2:54 pm
I am concerned as well. We have had players that did well in russian league b4 (Rebrov) and he was a disaster and we paid for it. Now the two players that banked 40 - 50 goals last season is out and got back ?? I thought Ramos didn’t want Pavlyuchenko at all and it was Arshavin that was his prefered replacement?? Hate to say it but I think that buy was a panic buy in the end of the window. Frazer Campbell - well I don’t know, Tarabt is probably as good!
I will agree though that in the end it was good to see Berba go - but hate to see him play for FC Alex Ferguson, would have been better to give him away to Barca if you ask me.
Corluka, Bentley,Modric and Gomez is the best buys if you ask me.
Go on you Spurs!!
ShelfEsteem - September 2nd, 2008 at 2:58 pm
By my estimation, the books are possibly £8M to the good, so there’s nominally at least that to spend in January
On paper, the loss of DB & RK are losses that may be hard to recover from, but given the protracted agony of the Bulgarian’s departure, I think ‘we’ have done quite well aside from the fact that Man U finally paid the asking price. Though they appear to have got their way, it was made difficult enough for Berbatov, Dantchev & SAF to act as a disincentive for others to act in the same way.
Also, there is now the prospect that JR can spend some of the International lull to build upon the very real improvement witnessed at Chelsea, with the hideous atmosphere clearing, and a squad full of players who are in “the right frame of mind”.
With Hutton recovered, and Corluka in, Zokora can take up the DM position, and Bale can continue to make space in LM. This position is still the one that concerns me most, and I am aghast that this was not the top priority for the transfer window. Even when we had ‘the best four strikers in the Prem”, the team suffered too much from the L-R imbalance caused by this absence.
Altogether, I believe the outlook is generally positive, and with some esprit de corps burgeoning after the messy divorce, and JR’s creativity, I think we might yet kick some arse!
By January there might be all kinds of talent queuing up to join the most dynamic and exciting team in the Prem.

Not only are we selling our best players to Manure we are also now taking a young striker from them in order to groom him for a return to Utd next season.
So Spurs are now Utd’s feeder and nursery club.
Here’s looking to 6th |AT BEST this season
tim - September 2nd, 2008 at 3:17 pm
berbatoss was scared to play in the game against sunderland, because he knew the fans were going to give him a lot of stick, and bottled it, i hope he plays when manure visit, because he will get 100% stick from the spurs fans, he will never have heard anything like it, also big red nose, and manure players better get ready for abuse, we are livid with this vile club, and one of our players will certainly have gripes against him, for always berating his team mates, and expect a few juicy tackles, berbatoss you are a disgrace to football, why did someone like you get sublime skill with a football, but no graciousness.
and if man shitty think because theyre loaded now, it makes them a big team, dream, any club with tons of cash can buy anyone nowadays, but they a still a midtable team at best, and maybe we need a multi billionaire, who spends loads of cash, if we are to compete with these rich clubs, but preferably and sensibly, i want fifa to do what america did for their sports, and thats to implement a transfer and wage cap, to stop chairman buying titles instead of earning them, aka chelski, they never would have won title if it wasnt for the billionaire, so we have to have a transfer and wage cap, immediately , or football is turning in to a joke. coys
Nickspurs - September 2nd, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Its been an awful window. we started it with the best strike force in the premiership and ended up by replacing them with 2 players have never played in the premiership. (I don’t count campbell playing the odd minute here or there). Corluka is a great signing but is he expected to be our right back cover, left back and centre back when king isnt there all at the same time. WE needed an experienced CB to cover for King and back up right back. WE needed a better DM, if we’re willing to sell Keane and Berb for 50million spending 14mill on pav and getting a kid on loan is a pathetic statement of ambition why haggle over milito, garcia, arshavin when we really needed at least one of them on top of what we have. i liked the start of the summer , giovani, modric, bentley, gomes and corluka are quality signings but overall i’d say we’ve gone backwards the best thing about spurs was berb and keane and we’re worse. A team of Gomes, Hutton, King, Woodgate, Corluka, Bentley, Jenas, Modric, Giovani, Bent, Pav, but with only bale, lennon the hudd and zok offering decent support its not good enough to get top 6 with all the other comps we’re be in.
Dawson not good enough, O’hara isnt either, campbell isnt, benoit isnt, Gunter too inexperienced, and Gilberto well just watch 1st leg against PSV last season.
Of our good players, King, Woodgate, Bale, Hutton all very injury prone. Lennon inconsistent. Modric, without a real enforcer in midfield, will be targeted, Giovani will take time to really settle, Pav unproven in the premiership, SPurs are going nowhere quickyly i fear.
WE still need CB, DM, LM, RB, and top quality striker, but i do think our goalkeeping worries are long gone Gomes AKA the octopus will be a spurs legend.
Fingers crossed we stay fit and in an around there til jan and then start buying rather than negotiating and we can still move forward but we need a bit of Ramos magic!!
SteveB - September 2nd, 2008 at 3:35 pm
I think we got good money for Keane and Berbatov. Pav is a direct replacement for Berbs (with Bent and Pekhart as 2 other target men). What we miss is the in the hole player that was Keane. I think we will be back for Arshavin in January at the end of the Russian season. That leaves us light until then. Frazier Campbell (on a loan) as backup for GDS will tide us over until January when we get a proper replacement. Personally I would prefer the South American we were linked to rather than Arshavin.
I think overall we did good business. Ramos has more options to play with now to unlock defences and we made a profit on our dealings.
In January maybe we can get rid of KPB, Ghaly, Stalteri and Rocha as well.
Anonymous - September 2nd, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Nickspurs - Berb never played in the prem before we got him and not many people had seen him before so give the boys a chance before you start slaging the window off campbell will sign 4 us it only went in as a loan cos of the time we did not panick buy witch was good give the team time to gel its been 3 games and now we have the time till the next window to make more signings whit out have to take players we dont really need stop acting like a wanker and get behind the team coys
joe - September 2nd, 2008 at 3:51 pm
The man berba has finally gone then. Knew it was going to happen…lets face it everyone knew. Man U have proper shafted us tho, they didn’t have permission to speak to him let alone give him a medical…bully boy tactics again from them. I would have rather we upheld our complaint to FA, paid berba’s wages and let him rot in the reserves-as Utd would have clearly lost points been fined and had a transfer embargo.
O well…worrying thing now is we have no strike force. Can’t believe we didn’t bring anyone else in. Last summer at one point we had he best strike force in the country: Mido, Berbatov, Keane, Defoe and Bent. Now all we have got is Bent, Pal(don’t know how to spell his name…and cant be arsed) and Frasier Campbell? We recieved 50 mill and spent it on midefield players where we should have signed strikers
The question i ask is why did we not get indecent striker in? We will be lucjky to reach top 10 this year. I am soo angry with the board. Modric and Bently are good players but they are not goign to get us goals. Apart from the 2nd half v chelsea the midfield does not know what it is doing and players are getting confused with each other. Get rid of Comolli…he does not know what he is doing?
Catcher - September 2nd, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Sorry Guys i think we are still too light weight in midfield, no tough tackling defensive mid player and not enough fire power up front, hope i’m wrong
Nickspurs - September 2nd, 2008 at 3:56 pm
i’m not slagging off Pav i just think replacing keane and berb’s goals with pav and campbell is a stupid move for a team targetting top 4. Reckon Pav will do well but theres no guarantee and campbell well yeah he did well for hull but thats it. If you think Pav and Campbell are good replacements for keane and berb i hope ur right but there not and if we are waiting til the next window could easily be out of the hunt for top 6 by then if pav and campbell dont come good
spursboy - September 2nd, 2008 at 4:01 pm
i just worry where the goals are gonna come from and still cant understand why weve taken campbell on loan unless its true and the only thing that stopped it being permanent was time.I think as a team we are better just lightweight up front
matt - September 2nd, 2008 at 4:02 pm
We had a better transfer window than previous ones but inevitably if we want to compete at the highest level we shouldn’t have sold keane , malbranque, berbatov in this transfer window and defoe, kanoute and carrick in previous ones. this makes me angry because allthough i rate levy as a chairman as he has made some very good deals down the years but it seems by selling these players the club is happy with mid table because i cant see us getting higher than that this year because we are a new team and there are no goals in the team. Gomes, dos santos and bentley look decent signings not convinced about corluka or modric or payvulechenko or campbell as modric looks too light wieght, corluka is not european standard and campbell is very young and not mention a few years ago the russian striker pavlyuochenko was an alcholic. i went to the sunderland game and we still look weak against effort teams sad to see keane and berba go but at the end of the day there desires were elsewhere and levy got good money for them. however in january i still recomend we look at santa cruz or kuyt as another striker. fair play to ramos if he gets it out of bent we could do well in the next few years and we would have done a very good piece of business but at the moment it is to early to tell.
matt - September 2nd, 2008 at 4:08 pm
for january
out : ghaly, stalteri, (not rocha because with king’s injuries that only leaves us with dawson and woody and u need 4), jenas ( im sorry if he does score the occasional goal but he cant do anything else he is a heavily overated player who puts no effort in even made captain a few times what a joke)
In: Santa cruz (no more than 12m)
no1manutdfan - September 2nd, 2008 at 4:13 pm
you spurs fans think you signings are world class are you mad? becks is 33 years old and shouldnt be playing international football but because his replacement bently is so poor he still has to be picked your better off using lenon. gomes looks good so far but brazil dont have the best keepers and he isnt 1st choice so we will see. modric are you having a laugh did you see anyone else vying for his signature? No! dos santos good player but not ready. that panic buy that you call Pavlyuchenko hes obviously not good or why did you go for arshavin 1st and then him??? sorry but its the truth guys none of them are world class its a fact but dont take my word for just wait a couple moths and you will see for yourself.
cc's partner - September 2nd, 2008 at 4:30 pm
no1 manrefan ur a twat
Modric class against england and in euros (which he outclassed a midfield incuding ballack and frings), dos santos highly rated at barca and chelsea also after him, name a better right midfield player for engalnd than bently?
and Pav has a proven gol scoring record, not that you wouuld of bothered to look at i bet. Typical maure fan jus looking at names and making stupid comments.
You of all people should of known with ronaldo that once they adjust hopefully no longer than 1 season that thier quality wil shine through.
oh and PS i caught u playing with ur dads knob too u sicko
gazza90 - September 2nd, 2008 at 4:33 pm
need l/w badly and another striker
SteveB - September 2nd, 2008 at 4:41 pm
If you looked at the Sevilla team the emphasis was on good technical players that could adapt to multiple formations and they played good football. The players we have bought I would argue are technically better players.
However we have had a lot of changes and Ramos needs to get the midfield on the same wavelength. Once they are I can see a tottenham team that will dominate posession and have sparks of creativity to create for the forwards. Dos Santos, Bentley, Modric, Huddlestone, Lennon will all create for the forward line. Maybe the forward line isn’t as good as last season but they should get a lot more opportunities.
My worry is when you get to Christmas and the weather isn’t great and you play lots of games in a short period of time against your Sunderlands, Wigans, Boltons etc I don’t know if we have enough grit in the midfield for those matches. O’Hara is one of the few in the squad but I think we could do with another.
spurs4life - September 2nd, 2008 at 4:46 pm
WE HAVE THE BEST CHAIRMAN IN THE
LEAGUE 31 MIL 4 BERBA 20 MIL 4 KEANE
23 MIL 4 DAT OTHER LOT GREAT BUISNESS
HE GOT MORE THAN WHAT ANYONE THOUGHT
WE DIDNT WANT 2 LOSE THEM BUT HE MADE THE
BEST OUT OF A BAD SITUATION.
WELL DONE MR LEVY
nhspurs - September 2nd, 2008 at 5:17 pm
i am very dissappointed at how Mr Levy deal with Berbatov.
We will forever be a selling club under Mr. Levy.
Can anyone guarantee me that he won’t sell Modric to a big four club in 2 years time if Modric proved to be a great player? We are a selling club under Levy, no matter how much money the club make, we, the fans will suffer under Levy. Its bullshit to drop complaint against Manu after Berba deal agreed. It only prove to Manu and the rest that our report to FA is just a way to increase the selling price. Get out Levy. You wouldn’t take Spurs to the Big four, you just try to make some fast cash. Get out and let us, the faithful fans suffer less.
Colin Sansom - September 2nd, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Overall I am happy with the transfers that happened and the underlining factor is that we now have a stronger side than before the ‘transfer window’. I am disappointed that Berbatov appeared to have behaved unprofessionally over the last few months and there was alot of rumours for a number of weeks as to whether he was staying at Spurs or whether he was off to ‘greener pastures.’ The game of soccer has become money driven and that would also to a large degree reflect in the decisions of world class soccer players. Berbatov’s salary would have doubled over night with him joining Manchester United. Yes, I agree ,he wanted to play for the world’s most prestigious club as soon as Fergusson showed interest, which reiterates he had no loyalty towards Spurs whatsoever from that point, which is why Ramos let him go. Why keep any player at any club if their commitment is not there or worse causes disruption amongst the players with his negative and at times childish attitude? I am also disappointed at the example he has demonstrated to budding professional players. I am also disappointed at only played for Spurs for two seasons and yet showed little respect to the side that gave him the chance to play in the premiership. I would have excused Berbatov if Spurs lacked direction and was typical of their form pre the ‘Martin Jol era’, however, with all credit to Juande Ramos, in LESS than a season, he has won the club silverwear and remoulded the side into a one of the formidable teams in the Premiership.
My only concern at this stage, is we don’t have a striker that has any real experience in the Premiership, yet that was always our strength as a side. Bent has certainly made an impression pre season and with all credit he did score against Chelsea. Only time will tell. Pavlyuchenko appears to be a worthwhile acquisition but no Premiership experience. (I hope he becomes another Berbatov). I still think we should have spent the 20 million on Arshavin. If Berbatov is worth 30 million then I am sure Arshavin is worth the money and playing alongside Pavlyuchenko, we would have had an ideal replacement for the Berbatov -Keane partnership, particularly if the two Russians have played together and have proven successful as a duo. However, I am still confident that we will do well this coming season and there is enough young blood in the side for us to prove that we will prove to be one of the most formidable teams in the world.
ROSS MAC - September 2nd, 2008 at 9:58 pm
IT MAKES ME LAUGH ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO BLAME THE BOARD FOR THE SALE OF CERTAIN PLAYERS???
BERBA - DIDNT WANT TO PLAY FOR THE LAST 2 GAMES? THAT IS A FACT HE DIDNT WANT TO BE THERE SO WHY WOULD WE WANT TO KEEP A PLAYER THAT DOESNT WANT TO EVEN PLAY FOR THE CLUB?
KEANE - AGAIN HANDED IN A TRANSFER REQUEST - WHY KEEP A PLAYER WHO DOESNT WANT TO BE THERE? HE WANTED TO PLAY FOR HIS BOYHOOD TEAM. EVEN THOUGH LAST SEASON HE SAID HIS BOYHOOD TEAM WAS CELTIC???? THATS ANOTHER STORY
DEFOE - WOULDNT SIGN A NEW CONTRACT, THIS MEANT THAT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A FREE AGENT BY THE END OF THIS SEASON, WHAT SHOULD WE HAVE DONE LET HIM GO FOR FREE????
A LOT OF SPURS FANS NEED TO STOP BLAMING THE BOARD AND LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE OF WHY THESE PLAYERS ARE NO LONGER AT SPURS……….!
I AGREE THAT WE NEED TO STRENGHTEN THE TEAM, ARSHAVIN FOR ME, BUT WE WANT PEOPLE WHO WANT TO PLAY FOR OUR CLUB.
WITH REGARDS TO DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS WE HAVE ZAKORA & NOW CORLUKA SO I THINKS THATS ENOUGH COVER…….. EVEN LEDLEY KING CAN PLAY THERE IF NEED BE!
RAMOS KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING SO LETS GET BEHIND HIM!!!
Topshelfbadboy - September 2nd, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Some good business but latterly wasted time. Keene away & obvious Berba was off so why no def mid, quality strikers, decent CB cover while we are awash with cash? Could still all come good but with 2 or 3 signings - would have made sure. Just think its a missed opportunity.
Yank - September 3rd, 2008 at 2:48 am
Spurs will never get near a top 4 finish if they can’t establish some consistency. Has anyone on this board ever even played a team sport? Jumbling your team every 4 months is a sure way to disrupt team unity and flow.
I’ll take 11 B-grade players whom have been together for 2 seasons over 11 whiney A-grade prima-donnas that can’t communicate any day.
supersuperspurs - September 3rd, 2008 at 8:28 am
although we have made some great signings, the loss of berbs and keane will be massive not in the fact i dont think that bent and pav will not score goals but its the fact that we only have bent to play in uefa cup games ?????? i understand that as part of the loan deal maunre utd are allowed to recall ???? please correct me if im wrong. and is young frazier eligible to or allowed by manure to play any part in the uefa cup, and i ask the this question is pav only uefa cup tied until after the group stages ???? and then eligible to play in the latter part of the comp?????
yes our draw in uefa could have been worse but if bent gets injured where does that leave us ?????
i read some of the comments on here and other sites saying we need to get some more players in come january——- well i can tell you now manure city will buy anything that has got a pulse come january any half decent donkey will line-up in a city shirt, and all because they have just become the richest team in the world and unfortunatley money talks why do you all think robinho has come to city he heard there is silly money to make while some band of merry arabs hold the keys to eastlands, and more will follow.
anonymous - September 3rd, 2008 at 8:32 am
As an Arsenal fan I was very impressed by Modric against Chelsea and if Huddleston could play DM, then i think that would be a very good partnership.
Having said that the other signing such as Bentley, Pavluychenko and Campbell are not that good. Bentley makes a living out of delivering pin point crosses but if Bent isn’t their then Pav or Campbell arent going to score. I think Lennon is definitely a better option. Pavluycehnko will be a 15 goal at most forward and cannot be compared with Berbatov or Keane. Overall I think while there is promise (Modric and Gio) there will be little improvement and I think that Everton, Aston Villa and Chelsea Version 2.0 are more likely to fill positions 5, 6, and 7.
WADDLE - September 3rd, 2008 at 8:41 am
Arshavin was key. Should have really pushed for him and someone with grit in the midfield. But i wouldn’t call us formidable at the moment. If i were an opposing manager i’d fancy my chances at the lane. Still lightweight. Jenas not good enough. Zakora trys but has NO technique whatsoever. Anxious ’till Jan.
edwhitewell - September 3rd, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Still way short of a decent squad, as we still need at least two defensive midfielders, a left winger, a striker, left back and central defender to even compete with the clubs looking to Europe next season. Remember both Corluka and Pav have already played in Europe this season, so we are still short when the UEFA rounds start as well.
It has been a typical Levy transfer window of profit margins first, second and third, then maybe the progress of the club. Let’s face it he must be in seventh heaven having made about twelve million pound profit on the transfer window, plus television revenues and all other monies coming into the club ending up in the shareholders pockets.
tel_the_yid - September 3rd, 2008 at 12:56 pm
I think we have gone backwards as the biggest loss was robbie K, he scored and made goals and his partnership with berba was better than any other teams with there 30 (prem) goals, who gonna do that?. last season we scored 67 (prem) goals, how many will we score this season?, as you need
between 60 to 70 goals to finish in the top six and hope you win half your games. I would like to know what the stratergy is for the club, as we started out trying to buy & develop youth and now have moved on to experience & youth. That why our TOP players have left because they dont want to be part of the YO YO anymore…
Richi Rich - September 3rd, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Hey guy’s, what team & formation would u like to see for Monday game against Villa?:
I’d like us to play 3-2-3-2
Gomes
Dawson - Woodgate - king
Corluka - Zakora
Bentley - Modric - Bale
Pavlyuchenko - Bent
Michael - September 3rd, 2008 at 2:00 pm
The thing is with a goalkeeper like Gomes we wont need to score 4 goals every game which Robinson made us do last year!
Gomes is by far the best signing i was worrried when we brought but the confidence he shown against a team that WILL be fighting for the league impressed me greatly his ability to pluck a cross and high ball with ease will release the pressure on the defence and will see us concede very few last mnute goals. Did you see how calm he was against chelsea and this evetually rubbed off on king and woodgate and Zokora who was inspired and actually impressed me!
mark - September 3rd, 2008 at 2:28 pm
shame we didn’t have 2 up front against chelsea, could have nicked 3 points…………..
