While Manchester City and Man United are in the headlines today, following on from their £30 million plus signings on Monday night, Everton have also broken the bank to land what they describe as an exciting prospect. They certainly need more clout in midfield and he looks sure to provide the Toffees with it.
The Press Association report that the Blues have broken their transfer record by spending £15 million on Marouane Fellaini, a player that Liverpool fans might have noticed over the past fortnight. This is because the Belgian played for Standard Liege in both legs against Liverpool, and was nearly part of a team who upset the 2005 winners.
Acting chief executive Robert Elstone told www.evertonfc.com: “This is fantastic news for everyone connected with the club. We have signed one of European football’s most exciting prospects, who will have a huge part to play at Everton over the next five years.”
He added: “I spoke with Bill Kenwright and David Moyes shortly after concluding the deal and they are delighted we have managed to secure his services. It came late on, like a lot of the big deals in the Premier League, but he’s with us and we look forward to welcoming him to Goodison.”
Fellaini is only 20-years-old, yet he’s earnt ten caps for Belgium already and scored 11 times in 79 matches for Liege. Everton fans will be hoping that he can weigh in with plenty of goals from midfield this season and he’s sure to get his chance right away. Are supporters happy with this signing, along with Louis Saha?
