Manchester United manager hails new signing as ‘one of the best strikers in the world’
by stresster on September 2nd, 2008In the end, the Red Devils got their man, although not without a scare as Manchester City tried to hijack the deal that would eventually see Dimitar Berbatov move to Old Trafford for just under £31 million. Despite City probably offering a whole heap of cash to the player if he chose to arrive at Eastlands instead, the Bulgarian has made a certain Scot a very happy man.
The Daily Mail reports that Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted (and probably a bit relieved) that United have managed to add another quality attacking option to their front line. Berba will now join Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez in a trio of luxury forwards and the manager can’t wait for him to get started.
United boss Ferguson said: ‘This is a key signing. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football.
‘His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I am sure he will be a popular player with the fans.”
Some fans have already been calling him the ‘new Cantona’, and it will surely mean that Wayne Rooney can finally play in a more advance role for the English champions. With Berbatov, you’re not just getting a fair quota of goals, bit also someone who can hold the ball up and create chances for his fellow players. With the Bulgarian on board, should United be favourites for the title again?

and fergie would be right he has proved that not only with spurs but also with leverkusen.the fact that he chose utd over newly rich city and chelsea shows that he has “the right attitude”to be a HUGH success at utd.this guy will bring a touch of sheringham(sorry spurs fans, yet another player who left u 2 win trophies)and a touch of cantona to utd.the attacking options are gonna hopefully bring a greater deal of enterainment aswell as goals which hopefully transfer into trophies.
