Now that Alan Curbishley has fallen on his sword, not literally, the speculation begins and with the international break giving us all loads of time to consider the issue, some surprising names have entered the frame!
Harry Redknapp is clearly someone who is going to be heavily linked, but it may be hard for him to leave Fratton Park, given the progress he has made there. Although he clearly loves the east London club, it may not be the right time for him, but who knows! Stranger things have happened, talking of strange names in the hat we have Sam Allardyce.
Whilst Big Sam has the Premier League experience, there is one thing counting against him becoming the next Hammers boss and that is his style of play. West Ham have long been considered the purveyors of attractive football and, whilst this may not be the case in recent years, they are unlikely to want to appoint a manager who specialises in building a team out of six-footers who are able to run around for hours but have the flair and panache of a drunk Ox. I would imagine there would be a collective uproar if the club turned to Allardyce.
Another suggestion on the table comes in the form of former legend Paolo Di Canio, but he doesn’t have the managerial experience, although he would be a perfect assistant boss. Slaven Bilic is in many ways the perfect choice, but he seems to have ruled out the move for the moment, and it seems unlikely he could manage Croatia and West Ham at the same time, so he is probably off the potential boss list.
So over to you, the fans, who would you like to see appointed? There is a poll to the right you can add your click to and, for a more detailed and definitive response, you can of course make your choice known in the comments section below. Good luck!
