‘Forget my Manchester City spell, I’ll be brilliant for Liverpool’ claims winger

It’s been a slow start for the Reds, who might consider themselves lucky to still be in the Champions League and to have seven points from three games in the Premier League. Liverpool have been devoid of ideas going forward, with the team failing to create too many chances for the likes of Torres, Keane and Kuyt. Will things now improve after recruiting this Spanish winger?

The Guardian reports that Albert Riera is confident of making a big impression at Anfield, despite not having the best of times during a loan spell at Manchester City. Rafael Benitez has spent £5.5 million on bringing his compatriot to the club from Espanyol, and the player is now ready to take the Premier League by storm after an indifferent spell in England the first time around.

‘When I was at Manchester City, I found out what the Premier League was like and I’m now prepared for it. I’m prepared to do the tackling and not just be the one being tackled!’ the Spaniard said yesterday.

Riera added: ‘When I came to Manchester City it was in January. The team was in the middle of the table, so it was a little bit different to how it is now coming to Liverpool. I was only 22, and I’d only had one year playing in Spain and two in France, which is not as competitive a league as in England or Spain.’

Riera made 16 starts for City in season 05/06, scoring just one goal – and that was against Newcastle! Nevertheless, his subsequent progress has been impressive, making his way into the Spanish squad after a number of impressive performances for Espanyol. Do Liverpool fans think they have a bargain and someone who can bring some width to the team’s play?
