‘Maybe Manchester City will win title this year’ claims Liverpool manager
by stresster on September 5th, 2008The dust has started to settle after ADUG’s takeover of Manchester City and, although Ryan Giggs has claimed that Manchester United are still the biggest club by some way, others have admitted that the Eastlands outfit could be a force to be reckoned with - even this season!
While it won’t be until January that the new rich kids on the block can spend again, Sky Sports reports that Rafael Benitez is wary of the financial clout that they carry after this investment, with the Spaniard reckoning on them to perhaps challenge for title honours sooner rather than later.
He said: “You cannot just win the title by spending money but Chelsea won for two years spending big, big money. Afterwards Manchester United won spending lots of money too.
“If we are talking about spending money then maybe Manchester City will win the title this year.
“It is not just a question of money but if you have more money it is easier. If you don’t have too much money, you must do the job as best you can.
“If we are talking now, maybe they (City) need time but if we talk in January, maybe they will buy five players… then you never know.
“But it is not just a question of ‘I will invest more and I will win’. You cannot guarantee anything.”
So money can’t buy you titles on its own, but without it, a club has no chance of winning the Premier League. Is it too early for City to win the title? After all, it was only three weeks ago that they were getting tonked 4-2 at Aston Villa and it’s not as if the team has changed radically since then! Nevertheless, they are forcing other managers of top clubs to sit up and take notice. City away is no longer a likely three points it seems.

Football has certainly changed an awful lot from the game I watched as a kid, and not for the better as far as fans are concerned. The game seems to have lost its soul and things such as honour, loyalty and common decency have become meaningless words from a bygone era. The majority of players, managers, chairmen and governing bodies at the top level in the modern game are nothing but a bunch of greedy, lying, cheats.
The despicable conduct of Ronaldo over the summer and the disgraceful actions of Ferguson and Berbatov on Monday are prime examples. The sport and the media should properly vilify them for their behaviour but instead of this they are held up as role models and heroes, and a blind eye is turned to anything to the contrary. To ordinary fans the shameful conduct of these players and club officials is really quite stomach churning at times, but that’s the game as it is today.

no1 cares “hey” - today is today. you change with the times, and i for one think that its exciting seeing more and more world class players coming to the EPL. Even thoug im a liverpool man, I like city and im glad they signed robinho, because it makes the gap between the big four and the rest of the clubs that much smaller.
Change is exciting, not shameful. Hopefully now we will follow in theyre steps and get taken over by someone who can give us the cash injection to bring in two or 3 world class players, and then with city investing, spurs spending big, and villa pushing, who knows, by this time next season you might not be even able to predict the top two teams for next year as opposed to having either utd or chelsea dominating the top spots.

Hard to know anymore . The problem with most of these takeovers is that the manager has little or no say on transfer policy which has been the ruination of some big clubs like Leeds , Newcastle . The exception despite all the furore at the time is Man Utd , you have to hand it to Fergie , it is his way or no way . At this point in time it is impossible to see Liverpool competing for the league ,we just have not got the resources . If there is a title to come it will be when the current youth set up mature , if they can keep them together and if we can hold on to Rafa

The fat spanish waiter must be devastated that some no mark team has been took over twice in maybe a year and had/have more money than poor fuckpig benitez to spend on players aww after all the trophies he has won for the red shite and still he is shopping in bargain basement ahahaha you red clowns will now turn your hatred towards shiteh because you believe that they are now your ‘rivals’ just like you when the jealousy towards the rent boys was there when roman took over but shiteh will under the right management breeze past you lot and win the prem before you will isn’t life great!

Bentitez needs to shut the F$£K Up. His always complaining about money this and money that. Like he has not spent enough of it.
It’s a fact that he has spent a lot of money at Liverpool. He has signed every player he wanted apart from Barry (18million You having a bubble?). So what’s his excuse. He should stick to knock out competitions.

Benitez is a twat
He just knows that all it will take will be one long term injury to gerrard or torress and liverpoool will not finish 4th.
I doubt Man City will get into the top 4 this year - Robinho isnt actually that dominant to change a team. They may break into it in future years but they will never be bigger than Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea. Once Abu Dhabi have had their fun managing a football team, they will sell and City will be left with nothing. I do hope however that Man U do get beaten by Man City, if only for one year as Man City’s supporters deserve some respite from thos flory hunting Man U ’supporters’.
blue mike - September 6th, 2008 at 9:51 am
we beat man united every year and have done for ages, we beat them twice last year.

citys take over will send shock waves through liverpool and arsenal cos they can be no longer content with playing for third and fourth place every season.i cant see them making a challenge this season but next season city will be a major threat cos they will have the bank roll to bring in big players.with all the crap going on at our club im afraid it could be us demoted to fifth.but its not all doom and gloom i cant see the wanker yankers holding on to a club that does not have the financial rewards of the champions league every season so come on d.i.c take your fingers out of your ass hole and save our club

Everyone in the league should be looking over there shoulders because there is a new big player in town. Im a liverpool fan and i am delighted for the blue half of manchester and i just love the texts about how much liverpool should be worried from manure fans its fucking hilarious that they think that are untouchable and we are the only one who will all of a sudden lose out on champions league football i love there blindness but we are not the only team in the league in a worrying financial situation just because you have papered over your cracks for another season and can make your payments for another year but what if it is you who dont make it and you dont win the league for the last two years of fergies riegn you will be as up shit creak as the rest of us because lets face it you cant buy the league any more. Good luck city and i mean that you are pushing things on and deserve all the success you get having such shit neigbours for all these years and they may not admit it but they are shitting themselves.
YNWA.

Benitez wastes all his money on crap players, its no wonder the yanks are getting annoyed. Sacking Rafa is the way forward - I like him but we’re not going to win the league with him in charge.

All or will take to end Man City’s run is one bad season and all the players will look away. There have been countless times when teams have looked to be on the up and have ended up fighting for there life. The only reason Chelsea got to make the move up the lader is they put togeter a great team befor they were taken over. If you have a look at the team that won the EPL for them it was mostly players that had been there a few years that realy stod out. Not the big money players they started to buy in.
kermit (anonymous above also) - September 7th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
i disagree benitez is a smart manager, trying to win the leaguewith slightly less cash than either ferguson or chelski
you guys that bin him just dont get his ideas
kermit (anonymous above also) - September 7th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
as for man city i m also a liverpool supporter but lived in manchester so i have a soft spot for the blues, so i cant wait to see robinho in sky blue
Man CITY Blue&Blue - September 7th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Kermit thanks I like liverpool to BENITEZ is a good manager.
for Ed would you run away if you kept getting money thrown at you even if you had a bad season, if I am being honest I think CITY are here to stay for a long time
Donavan Ried - September 7th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
That’s because Rafa already kowns Liverpool won’t.

hey - September 5th, 2008 at 5:12 pm…..I think you a right Hey, add to that the vast amounts of money the clubs pay players, Football as gone mad.
It use to be you could afford to go every week to see your club, but how offen can you go now? every second week, once a month?….soon it will be like taking a hoilday. you will go once or maybe twice a year if you are luck.. Alex you tend to forget we are the ones funding it. We the Fans.
In the near future i can predict that you will
(1) see a lot more clubs going bust, big and small a like.
(2) breaker way Leagues. That is a European super League as well as a English League not under FA rules
(3) Maybe a Breaker away Premier League where Clubs never get demonted just like what you see in the USA.
For the first time ever I believe we need to have wages capped a cross the whole football world
