The THREE signings that could help Liverpool to the title: Part One
by Mr Comfort on September 7th, 2008Yes Rafa invested pretty cleverly in the summer window but there are many who still believe there is something still missing in order to challenge the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United for the title, maybe that little something could come with the signing of any of these three?
Part One
David Villa – Robbie Keane has of course arrived to form a partnership to saviour at Anfield but as yet they don’t seem to be gelling, but don’t get me wrong it’s early days but maybe Rafa would have been better going for Torres’s international partner Villa? Yes the Valencia man was wanted by just about every major team in the world after his Euro 2008 exploits but having El Nino on his books would surely have handed the Merseysiders some sort of advantage in the pursuit. Still at the Mestalla and apparently the La Liga side even turned down a bid from Real Madrid but who knows maybe this deal could be revived next summer if Valencia once again finish mid table and miss out on that all important Champions League spot.
So Liverpool fans are there any player you think would greatly improve the clubs chances of that long awaited Premier League title or does Rafa already have a squad able to complete the task?

Mr Comfort if you haven’t noticed he signed a new 6-yr contract so that boat has sadly sailed so don’t bother writing parts 2 or 3 because if there as much tripe as this article your only going to get three times as more abuse

Ok, i take it just because Keane and Torres havent scored a goal together yet, means its time for Villa to come in. Now that is chronic in itself. Lfc have played 3 games and clearly Torres was injured for one, so i say, lets start talking about their partnership when about 15 games have passed.
Villa and Torres don’t play well with each other when they play for Spain.Didn’t you notice that in the Euros.Villa only shined when Torres was taking off for Cesc.In all of their Friendly matches also for goodness sake, can’t believe your able to get away with writing this sort of b’s.

Mark - September 7th, 2008 at 8:23 pm …….
Your right about Torres and Villa. I Think that David Villa wants to be top dog and as a result he look for Torres to do the work and set him up all the time.
Rushback - September 7th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Well thought out Mr Comfort
How are Spurs doing by the way?
unknown - September 7th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
I agree with lfc ha, villa is in the past
Mark - September 7th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Its evident to see how Villa and Torres play for each other, Liverpool doesnt need big name players( Chelsea) we need players who will work together as one, and compliment each other.
I hope, that we now have that in Keane and Reira being our most needed signings of the summer.
Roll on the next Transfer window
Neil - September 7th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Villa has stated he does not want to play in England.
No story here.
Move on people!
reddy - September 8th, 2008 at 1:18 am
Obviously you have no knowledge of football and the rules of this season’s Champions League, whereby 8 homegrown players needed to included in the Liverpool’s official UCL squad.
Now that we got Robbie Keane who is considered homegrown, it saved a spot to include another foreigner in the squad.
And because Liverpool were unable to secure the services of Barry or Downing, but instead Spanish Riera, they had no choice but to leave out Hyypia of the UCL squad.
I wonder who will be left out if Liverpool got Villa instead of Keane?
CK - September 8th, 2008 at 4:14 am
Villa and Torres dont actually play that well together, look at the Euros, either one or the other performs, Keane will come good, what liverpool need is three player signings and three other signings. Here they are:
1. Dubai Internatioal Capital - Stadium, Players
2. Kenny Dalglish - Board member,advisory role
3. Kevin Keegan - Assistant manager - move Sammy to coach (No:3),bring back the pass and move, free flowing attractive football
1. Sergio Aguero - Torres/Aguero, Keane behind them - serious frontline
2. Gareth Barry - Gerrard/Barry, Mascherano behind them - serious midfield with balance of the left and right attributes of Gerrard and Barry
3. David Silva - Class winger - Left and Right switcher
——————Reina——————
Arbeloa–Carra/Agger–Dossena
————-Mascherano————–
——Gerrard———-Barry———-
—————-Keane——————
——-Torres———Aguero——–
Cavalieri/Skertel/Hyypia/Deggan/Aurelio/
Alonso/Lucas/Benayoun/Silva/Babel/Kuyt
Following season with DIC money and Dalglish and Keegan on board we buy English:
Richards for Deggan
Wheater for Hyypia who becomes a coach at Liverpool
Warnock for Aurelio
Joe Cole for Pennant
Downing for Benayoun
Owen/Ashton for Kuyt
Throw in Messi/Kaka just to spend a bit of oil money and we’re done
Pass and move and the return of the boot room
Akshay - September 8th, 2008 at 4:30 am
well for me the 3 players who could change liverpool are messi, silva and sergio ramos….
reina
ramos carra agger(skrtel) dossena
messi masch(alonso) gerrard silva
keane torres
subs: diego, arbeloa, insua, hyypia, lucas, babel, yossi, kyut, ngog…
get rid of pennant, aurelio, degen, voronin and give talents like pacheco, bruna and saric a couple of games….
redfan - September 8th, 2008 at 5:21 am
CK, while I think your signings are reasonable and we might even get them, although Aguero would cost a shiteload, your formation leaves us with no width whatsoever. This is the thing most fans are angry about as they want us to play with more width to free up space for our strikers to work in. Silva won’t come to Liverpool, he’s stated the only place he’d move to is Barca.
Cheif - September 8th, 2008 at 7:18 am
i like the way people talks so soon, please try to remember how long it took crouch to score when he joined will you among some other strikers at other clubs whom are not doing well.
People read too much into things so eary its unreal.
Manure didnt exactly have the perfect start last year yet look what they achieved and liverpool had a poor stint where people where saying we were not gonna finish top 4 yet……. and i dont think anyone gave us a hope in hell in europe over the years yet 2 finals a semi final and a win…………………………….. some of you or just idiots whom cant resist jumping the gun
jake - September 8th, 2008 at 8:29 am
bring back kewell
jake - September 8th, 2008 at 8:30 am
bring back kewell he is god
Jasel - September 8th, 2008 at 8:38 am
We need players that will create space, have the skill to pick through tricky defences and give us (LFC) the edge that we’ve sorely been lacking for too long.
Players like Aguero or Silva fit that bill.
Then we need width ,,, people that can hug the touchline, take players on where neccesary and provide good service to Mssrs Torres & Keane… again Silva is able to do that but I’m thinking the likes of Ribery, Vicente or my personal favourite Ben Arfa (accepting he’s still somewhat raw).
Finally - someone to provide a great foil for Torres up front a la Benzema.
So my prefs in summary would be: Aguero, Silva, Ben Arfa and Benzema.
Mark - September 8th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Reddy-
How the heck is Keane considerd homegrown, hes bloody Irish for goods sakes.
Nevermind the likes of Messi, ye must be absolutely thick to believe he would come to us, We wont get Aguero (sp) and by the looks for it, DIC wont be coming for a long time.I hate to say this, but at the end of the day, were nothing without money.
Akshay- Your living on another world if you think we will ever get a team like that.
Stop being so naive lads and lets think of what we could do.. And no Kevin Keegan is a shit manager and wouldn’t be right for liverpool, I would give Daglish a spot on the bench, and release Pellingrino.
A realistic formation is
Reina
Arbeloa Carra Agger Dossena
Babel Xabi Gerrard Reira
Keane Torres.
That is what you will see most days, id swap around Xabi and Mash.
Agger and Skrtle wont be trusted on their own in CD, as again they both lack the orgainsational skills that Carra and Hyypia have.
“Aguero, Silva, Ben Arfa and Benzema.” None of them again will come to liverpool. Silva is staying in Spain, plus from the Euros perfomance id pay 12 million for him. Ben Arfa is a toss pot and wont be in England, well maybe Arseneal cause the whole of France is over in London.. Benzema was a flop aswel in the Euros and its 20million well kept..

Chief–
Me and you seem the only normal people posting here, absoultey agree with people jumping the gun so early.
2D - September 8th, 2008 at 11:45 am
villa, ribery and messi (unlikely but still desirable)
Marzipan Mynci - September 8th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Zenden, Antonio Nuñez and Mark Gonzalez
Karim - September 8th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
CK
Finally someone who agrees with me and get King Kev back to Anfield as an attacking coach! He could be so useful! However, i dont think he would want to be number 2.. but maybe at Anfield.
I say bring in Dalglish too as board member. Id also like to see Barnes, Beardsley, Rush bought in too to help our wingers and strikers.
The boot room needs to return massively
Also, i know this is a bit rubbish but since 1990 we havent won the league, yet more asians are supporting them, and a lot of them are muslim. Now i love liverpool but whenever im around my muslim mates i get the feeling they dont like it when i wear liverpool shirt because of the sponsor.. Is it any coincidence that since 1990 we havent won the league because of an alcoholic sponsor. Also if DIC were to buy us out, being an Arab state, we would have to look for new sponsors anyways! So the sooner the better, trust me!
Alex - September 8th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
I would like to see us get taken over just like city have and then i really think Sergio Ramos is the first player we should get.
Still only 21, can play cb and rb, loads of exp, spanish, good crosser, technically sound, good in the air, fantastic. I reckon we’d be looking at about 30m for him but he’s gonna be around for the next 10-12 seasons so i reckon thats good business. And also with Hyypia close to retirement and Carra ageing, he would be just what we need to cement the back 4.
Then I would see off all of our deadwood, kuyt, pennant, voronin, degen, dossena, etc. And I’d look at 2 other players in Royston Drenthe (babel’s team mate can play lb or left wing - 15m) and Then finally Messi - 60m. If city can do it why can’t we? We’re looking at 105m but with those three players improving all aspects of our team - (speed, width, goal scoring, full backs, defense) we would win. Lets be honest, 105m isn’t much more than what we’ve spent in previous years - in the last year: 26m -torres, 19m - Mascherano, 20m Keane, 12m Babel.
Bradley Pearce - September 8th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
reina
degan carragher agger dosenna
mascherano
babel gerrard riera
torres keane
now that is a quality team without the sort of money spent like united and city ect!
if d.i.c took over i would look to get joe cole on the left and ribery!
reddy - September 8th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Mark,
Obviously you don’t read other news…
“New UEFA regulations mean that eight players from every club’s 25-man Champions League squad must be home grown.
UEFA regulations mean that four players must be ‘association trained’ (ie produced by an English academy) while four must be ‘domestic association trained’ (ie produced by Liverpool’s Academy).
Liverpool’s four ‘domestic’ players are Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Jay Spearing and Stephen Darby, with Robbie Keane, Jermaine Pennant, Steven Irwin and Martin Kelly making up the others.”
kermit (anonymous above also) - September 8th, 2008 at 5:56 pm

If the DIC came in as is forcast, I do not envisage much change to the boardroom staff. But I would advise to get Dalglish back on board and funnily enough I ,like carra always thought he should have stayed on ,on an advisory role after all the great Bob Paisley said he had th qualifications to make a great manager so he posses skills that are important in that role. The Idea of getting keegan back on board as a coach is also an interesting proposition. i say in pacos role as he his hugely likeable to work with and will act very well between benitez and the players. also beathing a winning mentality that the man posses. Now my team is as follows and with the DIC in charge I believe its loose change,
1) Pepe Reina
2) Danny Alvez
4) Daniel Agger
5) Martin Skyrtel
3) Dossena
6) Mascherano
7) Messi
9) Torres
10) David Villa
11) Babel
Dave - September 8th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
ok we need width and flair in order to break down the defences and beat the defences i watch la liga and silva would be great but lacks physical strength a perfect player for the bill would be bastian schweinsteiger can play on either flank and plays wide is fast strong and can beat men diego capel is another name that would fit the bill, another top signing would be joe cole but that is being unrealistic chelski wont let him go we also need a proper right back someone strong n fast not too convinced by rafinha but certainly better than our current options.
starting lineup
Reina
Agger Skrtel Cara Dossena
Masch Gerrard
Babel Keane Riera
Torres
using babel and riera as wing forwards and keane lirking about to cause havoc amongst the lines then gerard more offensive and masch holding the midfield
Donavan Ried - September 8th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Dave - September 8th, 2008 at 7:01 pm ……..”a perfect player for the bill would be bastian schweinsteiger can play on either flank and plays wide is fast strong and can beat men” There are a few of us how as been calling for Bastian Schweinsteiger Ever since I first saw him in the Euro’s 2004 I sad he would fit into Liverpool perfectly and we could get him. His contract runs out on June 30th 2009.
