The word legend is often over-used but it’s a perfectly acceptable term to describe this Italian, who has just stated he wishes to end his career in the Premier League and has therefore put many clubs on alert.
Italy striker Alessandro Del Piero has hinted he might move to an English Premier League club when his contract with Juventus expires in 2010.
“An experience in a foreign championship is tempting. Even if it goes badly, it enriches you from a human and professional point of view,” the 33-year-old told Sport Week magazine.
“In England…one lives better than in Italy, even in football. They have a more beautiful championship and, unlike us, they have managed to resolve their problems with the fans.” (Reuters)
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, as well as Chelsea and Tottenham, have all been linked with the Juventus hero over the years and every one one of those clubs would surely jump at the chance of signing the veteran finisher. The striker had a great season last term, proving that he still has a lot to offer. Obviously any deal would be a short-term one but given he would be available for nothing it would be well worth monitoring the situation. Do fans of any of the clubs linked with Del Piero think a move would be a wise or pointless one?
