Arsenal could face competition from Manchester United for the signature of Sporting midfielder Miguel Veloso, the player’s agent has revealed.
Veloso’s name was one consistently associated with a move to England during the summer, with United, Arsenal and Tottenham all oft-linked with the Portugal international.
Arsene Wenger has been typically restrained in the transfer market but knows that a midfield shorn of the likes of Alex Hleb, Gilberto and Mathieu Flamini is in need of reinforcing.
“Arsenal want Veloso for the future and a deal could be done in the January window,” the 22-year-old’s agent, Paulo Barbosa, said in the News of the World.
“But United are also watching the situation very closely.” (Setanta)
Manchester United were poor against Liverpool and the area of the pitch where they really seemed to lack ideas was the centre of midfield. Paul Scholes tried his hardest but Michael Carrick was ineffective before he was taken off injured and Anderson was bright but lacked the quality he showed last term. But it’s Owen Hargreaves who has disappointed the fans the most. Sir Alex has been keen on Veloso for a while now and with rumours circulating that Hargreaves may be on his way out, a move for the Sporting Lisbon star may be just the ticket.
Do Man United fans feel that another midfielder is needed to help get the title chase back on track?

yes,a think we do need velesco.. as another midfield player, hes young & a future player,a don’t know y we didnt go for..goivanni dos santos as we could have topped tottenham for him..but velesco is a must player and as a utd fan a would be very very! happy to see him move to use.anderson & nani are very good fresh players & along with velesco a think would fit in,an ideal replacement for scholes in the future.hargreaves & carrick will always at utd & have there place & both move onto mid 20’s anderson’s partner & age group in centre midfield there is not another.velesco is the 1..a wouldn’t let arsenal get hold of him..there have likes of denilson, walcott,c.vela, fabregas, clichy, van persie alot of good young players including there new boys..nasri & ramsey..we need another to fit into our squad.we might be strong now but when giggs & scholes move onto other thinks which i hope with utd behind team coaching or something we’ll know about it when there gone.berbatov has just arrived & are happy to see some1 has..but much would of prefered aguero..he’s soo much like tevez & 24 is young but he’s 4 years younger again, all round pace, skill,& fire power,a think he would physical as drogba and at a young age anderson type but he’s got that..all round player..not every1 you see has got that.as we all say..1 in a million.he’s different.

If you fail to see Anderson’s contribution you need glasses. If you wear some get your eyeside checked. A team is made up of eleven fully participating players, where no one feels he must “let youngsters do the running while he sits back.” that is why we will never win convincingly by playing both Gigsy and Scholesy at same time.
