According to this source Rafa will go head to head with neighbours Everton for the signing of a former Anfield legend!
Newcastle striker Michael Owen is a target for Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton. The 28-year-old’s contract expires in the summer and is free to talk to clubs in the new year. He would be available for a knockdown £4m in the January transfer window. (News of the World)
Benitez may be worried that his strike force is not exactly clicking so far this season, especially after they failed to break down Stoke’s resolute defence at the weekend. Robbie Keane has so far failed to impress and Torres only has one goal to his name and therefore talk of another striker being brought in may well have some validity. Michael Owen is, of course, a Merseyside legend and I find it hard to believe he would move to the Toffees so I guess it will come down to whether Rafa feels that the England international is worth bringing in. The fee of between £4m and £6m has been mentioned and that could well prove to be a bargain – after all, the 28-year-old has managed 16 goals in his last 31 starts and that’s not too shabby a record. Do Liverpool fans think it would be a good idea to try to re-sign their former idol?
