Premier League giants Chelsea have been rocked by the news that instrumental defender Ricardo Carvalho shall be out of action for at least a month due to injury.
Carvalho has been confirmed to have suffered medial collateral ligament damage. He picked up the injury during Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester United and was substituted after only 10 minutes.
Medical tests have now confirmed that the Portuguese international central defender will miss three weeks of training and need a further week to recover fully and regain fitness.
The news must come as a blow for Chelsea, who will also miss their influential midfielder Deco for the next two weeks. He injured himself during a warm-up session just before the match against United at the weekend.
