It was reported at the weekend that Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor was looking to move out of St James’ Park in January as the Mike Ashley-owned club jumps knee-deep into crisis. But the player himself has come out and has proclaimed that he is not going anywhere, even if Newcastle become more entrenched in financial and sporting crisis.
Taylor was linked with a possible move out of St James’ Park in the January transfer window but the strong defender has come out and has made it clear that he is staying on at Newcastle. He said:
“It’s ridiculous. It seems all of the players have had their names mentioned in relation to leaving at some point and today it was my turn. There’s no chance of that happening. I’ve signed a new contract and I’m here for three years and that’s all that matters. All of the lads have to pull together now and we realise that and are determined to turn things around.”
At least there is someone who is showing some loyalty. If only there were a few more Steven Taylors in football…
