Arsenal blow as major Italian target fades

Arsenal’s hopes of signing the next big thing of Italian football have flown out of the window after Juventus confirmed they look set to bind star young player Sebastian Giovinco to the Turin club.

All this summer, there have been rumours that the Gunners were eager to lure 21-year-old Giovinco to north London and the player himself was reported to be eager to move to Arsenal. With Juve coach Claudio Raneiri not at all inclined to play Giovinco from the start, there were reports that the player wanted out.

But now, much to Arsenal’s despair, Juventus’ director of sports Alessio Secco has confirmed that a contract renewal is in the process. He said: “There are never easy renewals, but the distances are not so ample.

“The player is the club’s asset, but he must complete a process of maturation, also from the psychological part, and what interests us is that he is aware that he did not arrive yet.”

Sorry, Arsenal, but you just have to forgo Giovinco dreams for now…
